Troubleshooting my loud ass clutch fan

About a year ago my father replaced my clutch fan on my truck for me because my old one was cracked, and ever since then i've noticed the fan is loud as hell and sounds like a semi truck. It is constantly running even when at 3000+ rpms and sounds like it's going to blow up at times. Is this normal at all and is there any way to see if the fan may be bad?

It sounds like the clutch is seized. You should be able to rotate the fan blade by hand without much resistance unless the engine is really hot. Obviously, check it with the engine not running.

If the clutch is operating correctly, it should turn but be stiff when the engine is cold. Start the engine and run it for a minute or two. The fan should be released and spin freely. Last, with the engine at operating temperature, check the fan again. It should be stiff but able to spin.

If it's stiff all the time or won't spin at all, the clutch is bad.

You can also fiddle with the bi metallic spring on the front. I recently unwound one on a Nissan to get it to be locked up all the time.

Yup it’s seized. It has a fair bit of resistance when it’s both warm and cold. I let the truck idle for a few minutes earlier like you said and after cutting the truck off it still took a bit of force to turn. It was the same when I checked after got back from work earlier.

I suspected as much but the troubleshooting to verify is free. So, might as well make sure before buying parts.
