TREC Racer Home Made

Well...the inevitable is upon us and the time to repair the truck before the first race is slipping away, quickly.

The truck is still in the back yard but I've been tinkering with buying some parts and welding stuff together. I got a ways togo but I saw an awesome start to it last night and will keep heading in a better direction.

A write up with pics and how I went about it will follow...making stuff awesome is not cheap!!!

Welp everyone...bear with me here cause ive tried about 4 times to make this post and my phone is about to piss me off beyond belief. Ive got some updates and some pics but im gonna have to do everything in prolly about 3 different posts.

What weve got going on is the ranger is suppoesd to make its CA CAW debut this satuday at the first race of the year. It still has some odds and ends repairs to make such as...weld bed back together, weld tcase crossmember back together, weld rad core support back together, assemble 6" longer cv's, bled brakes, etc.

The problem is that im from Fort Wayne, IN and im currently in Erie, PA. So everythin im typing and posting is from this damn phone or my stupid tablet. Ugh im so mad at technology right now...sorta.

Bottom line is, i think i got some awesome stuff going on right now and i wanna share. Ive run into some problems and bugs along the way but i feel with some time and cash things will smooth out. Ive got 10 pics i wanna post and they may come 1 at a time or mutiples per post. Im gonna let the pics do most of my talking...much love for everyone,,,

But more love for Macgyver, Shawn, Rosco, Branik motorsports, Ruffstuff, Sumit Racing, Fort Wayne circle track supply (Bartows), and anyone else who has helped me along this path.

First off is a teaser pic

Is that 6 over stock width? Hence the 6in wider cvs?

Thats right!¡!¡!¡!¡!.....

Were 6 inches wider per side and i believe if i remember correctly 2" wider total than a F~150. Maybe 4 but i think 2. I took measurments before and after. Before we had 6.5~7" of travel. Afterward we ended up with 15" of travel. I see some areas where i messed up in angles and what not.

For example...the upper control arm hits the inner fender before running out of up travel. I need more down though. My down travel is maxed right now bc of the upper balljoint angle. The next problem to that part of the equation is the inner cv is maxxed way before the ball joint though.

The end solution is gonna be adapting 930 cv's to the inner yoke and changing the upper BJ angle. Another short term problem, and i contribute this to lack of research, is my spring rate is way off. New springs should be here thursday.

Its all him...in his messed up head lol

He made that jig to extend the arms...

mac 'it will be crazy from the passengers seat' gyvr

In a way, yes i am a copy cat. I copied fords oe design and just made everything longer. The crew recently aquired a whoop ass plasma cutter. Im considering making the CAs out of boxed plate. Its all still up in the air

How come you are running hiems on the back of the arms and using ball joints on the front? Not hating, just wondering. They look pretty pimpin:icon_thumby:

Because its the easiest way in my mind make everything connect. Second reason is the ease of getting replacement parts if something fails. Stock ball joint and super common heims shoul mean easy to get repaired if we break.
