TREC Racer Home Made

awesome! great to see this setup doing so well, but also expected:D

what happened to tom campbell? was that meyers that broke?

i went and seen what happened...

same thing as you...just some shipping issues that were needed to get right...

shocks didnt show and he had wrong springs:annoyed:

has to be a total bummer..

Campbell broke a coil bucket up front back in the woods towards the end of the race...I had lapped him on my 5th lap and was thinking that, it is awesome to see the other ranger out there still running. I came around the course again and seen him sitting off the course back in the woods.

I talked to him for a sec at the campsite and I had asked him why he didn't limp it around the rest of the course to the finish line to at least acquire the points he would have gotten and he said he didn't even think about. Oh Well

Do you mean Meyers in the side by side? Not to sure about anything that goes on with the side by sides.

the wrecked buggy after the hard landing i though meyers was in one of those.

tom had tried to work on it but give up. i know i would have had to be in danger of destroying the engine or tranny to have stopped, very surprised he stopped....have to tease em bout being too grey to run

Bryan,

Can you give me a run down on your truck? Parts, etc.

Jim,

Its pretty much a stock truck. I did the chevy leaf spring swap and the shocks are just FOX 2.0 resevoirs...no bypass involved. Like u said, bypass isn't allowed in the class I'm running.

However there is a XJ in my class that's running FOX shocks off of a Raptor...incase u didn't know those are bypass shocks. I'm not sure how he is getting away with that, but I don't wanna be a snitch so I'm gonna let it slide.

My shcoks started off life as 10" stravel and I converted them to 6.5" and 14". I left the stock rear shocks on it to act as limit straps and bump stops.

I guess my truck is pretty far from extreme but it works for me. We just got done with our second race and I did rather bad.

We threw the serp belt and lost PS which put me in some trees where I ripped a mirror off. Put the belt back on with no tools...prettty sure the tensioner is shot. Got strapped back in and never realized the left rear was flat. Stopped and had to put the spare on the front and moved the front to the rear...the spare interfers with the rear shocks.

Threw the belt about 4 more times in 1.5 laps and just waited in front of the finish line to collect points. The counted me as a DNF...I'm contesting that one.

It you wanna ask some more specific questions ill be glad to answer them but like I sad its pretty much a stock truck with good shocks

Thanks Bryan.

I'm putting you in the online TRS magazine I'm working on right now, so just trying to gather info.

Cool cool...make me feel good.

Some of the other stuff I've done is 3 set set of off road light light that I converted to HID along with the 2003 headlights I put in it. Word of advice...go with the 55 watt instead of the 35 watt...I put the 35 in the stock headlights and it was a waste of money. I used visionari as my source the conversion kits. I wanna say I paid 135 mailed to my door for the 3 H3 kits and the dual beam 9007 was like 65. Everything was was ebay special from hongkong shipped by DHL...got to my door in 4 days.

I installed a grab handle on the passenger side and put a horn and wiper button. I just ran a extra lead that tapped the horn signal and ran it thru a momentary contact switch. On the wiper I tapped the washer circuit. So the co dawg can horn to pass and clean the windshield when it needs it.

The thing I like the most is I can still daily drive the rig...the wife and I took it church Sunday before last and then put 60 miles on after that going to both of our parents for Sunday dinner. The rear tire carrier slips into the hitch reciver and then bolts to thru the bed replacing two of the hold down bolts.

Before our races I unbolts the rear window and pull it out so I can run my 5 pnt harnesses the shock hoop kickers and I put the window back in after the race. Its supposed to be a budget minded series and I really don't have to much involved in the vehicle.

There a bumper build on TRS that has some other notes in it...such as how I came across the vehicle and what not...

Thanks for the honor Jim

My first post.

I'm the co-dowg for this wild child of a ride. Its a blast. Bryan wanted me to take some pics and post them. Jim feel free to pull them and use for your article.

I figured that the truck deserved some decent pics, I used my work camera instead of my cell camera. I'm not that good at taking pics but the camera does a decent job of getting the point across.

Thank you, thank you Matt...the guy is the best friend u could ever ask for. Like I said, I'm stuck in GA and he is getting ready for the next race.

Its also prolly the cleanest that truck has ever been.

So what happened? How did the season go?

We finished 3rd over all in points.

Our best was a 2nd. I drove two races and got a 3rd in one and a 4th in the other. Bryan raced the other 5 races with consistent finishes.

The reader's digest version is that we beat the living crap out of that truck. It did things no vehicle should have to endure. Bryan laid it on its side one race. I put it back together and painted it...he promptly smash that door up again.

The season is over and plans are being made for next season. The truck has a broken cross member at this point and the truck is leaning badly to the passengers side.

Here's a few pics:

Sounds like you had a respectable year. What are next years plans? You guys need to spend a bunch of $$ on the truck getting it ready, or does it just need a few repairs before the season starts.

Sorry for the slow reply. Holidays had us all busy.

Truck probably needs a motor. It got hot on the last race, I wasn't riding in it, so no one was keeping him sane...lol. Beyond a junk yard motor and the suspension/torsion bar mount, just the shocks need rebuilt. I think that is the minimum. I know that Bryan has some other plans, but I don't know for sure what is going to get done.

Hopefully before too long we will get it pulled into the garage and get some work done on it.

And...not spend a lot of money getting there...
