I’m trying to get my transmission back on my engine and it won’t go back on the engine, I know the splines are lined up it went all the way in and the slave cylinder hits the pressure plate springs but no matter how hard I push neither of them will compress so I can put the transmission the rest of the way on. Does anyone have any tips to help get it on?

I just finished putting the transmission back on my engine and realized I didn’t put the shim that goes between the engine and transmission in do I have to have it on?

Yeas ago when installing transmissions with manual clutch releases, even though all was lined up proper, we'd have to hit the clutch release once before the transmission would seat in place.

Don't know if that's possible with a hydraulic slave cylinder but seems likely.

I see from your other picture you didn't have the engine plate on the engine...

Yes... you need that.

You open the slave bleeder when installing the transmission, same thing

At least you're all set to tear into it, jacks, stands, tools all laying there
A guy did some work on mine last year and left the shifting forks or something out of place and it would not install with that configuration, I must have pulled that thing out and put it back a dozen times before a man on here saw one of the photos I had posted and knew it was not aligned right to be installed
Simple fix but was a long hard road getting there

Yea I got everything I need, that’s crazy I can’t believe he left something that important out

I have an m5r1 that’s in an 89 ranger with a 2.9 I got a new rear output seal and it wouldn’t go back in I tried all the suggestions and none of them worked so I looked around and I think it was the wrong seal so I went and got a new one but this one won’t go in either no matter what I try

I replied in depth to the post you just deleted. Wtf...

Measure the seal bore in the tailshaft...

Measure the seal OD...

those numbers should be close... with the seal a couple thousandths larger. They have sealer and a slight interference. Also check the ID of the seal and ensure it slides nicely on the drive shaft.

If good... tap it with a hammer to get it started... then drive it home while keeping it square while doing so.

How carefully did you remove the old seal? If the soft aluminum tailshaft housing bore got a little boogered that can make it hard to get the new seal in.
