transmission question

I have an E4OD transmission, ive heard you can not use these with a carbed engine. Im doing a v8 swap and this is the only transmission i have till i can buy another one. Will it work?

You have to purchase a controller for this transmission. http://www.becontrols.com/products/e4odcat.htm Plus it is a huge transmission. I'd say sell it and get a AOD if you want a auto.

ok ill try to sell it ive already got the motor in where it needs to be and the trans crossmember to where it will fit the E4OD will i have to move it again for the AOD?

Contact a couple of junk yards and see if they will trade an AOD for your E40D.

thats a good idea i didnt think of that. how do i tell if its in good condition or not.and will i have to move the tranny crossmember again for the AOD? i had to move it back 3 inches for the E4OD.

Measure from the bellhousing flange to the center of the bolt holes for trans mount. I can check my notes for the AOD measurements.

i kno that the E4OD trans is 29 inches.

Bad news AOD is 22 3/4"
Wait till you get yours to relocate it that measurement may differ with a different tailshaft depends on what its out of.

The trans is only 32" long.

When you are looking at a tranny, ask them if you can pull the pan and look at the oil.
If it looks or smells burnt, I would pass on buying it.

It won't have the normal red color, it'll be a lot darker in color.

ok. i just looked at your car domain and nice work. what all did you have to do to get the headers to fit.

ok what headers did you use and would they work with my 302?

I used the Total Performance swap headers for a 351W. I'll let ya know if they actually fit a 302 when i put them on my 84. They should but I cant say for certain.

Total Performance no longer makes them unfortunatly.
