I think I've narrowed my transmission issues down to: Shift Rail Plugs, Input Shaft Seal, and maybe Input Shaft Bearings? Not sure about the last one. It shifts fine and smooth, but I get a high pitched whining noise in all gears but 4th. I've had limited experience with transmissions. I worked on one in shop class 20+ years ago. Is this something I can do? Should I send it to someone else? Can I replace just these items that have failed? What do you think? Is it worth it when the truck is a 1994 (4cyl, 5spd) with 136,000 miles and dents and rust everywhere? Thanks,Scott

Get the parts and a rebuild kit, take trans out of truck. Drive to my place...you aren't all that far. Will take a couple hours and you are done. If it needs a main and input shaft I have them already for a 2wd M5OD-R1. I'll make you a killer deal on them. Let me know.

How bad is the whine? Does it shift hard into the gears?
The leak on the front can be caused by a worn pocket bearing.

I may explore that option. I don't have a real good way to do this in my garage. It really shifts very well. No grinding, no hard shifting. Just high pitched whine in all gears except 4th. It's not extremely loud, but it is noticeable. Seems like a great transmission, actually. This is a 2wd. Thanks,Scott

That is good to hear on the shifting ok. That is alot less money on your part. A bearing and seal kit would be your best deal then You can find those kits fairly cheap over the internet, or even a local supplier. Like I said let me know I'll help you out.
