Hey guys I'm back again with another problem that I just can't seem to figure out. I thought my transmission went out on me. I have a tk5 in my ranger, and so I took it out of the vehicle and I took out the wrong bolt, I took out the cap screw, so I went and purchased another transmission. After I get home I realize it has a larger sleeve on it because it uses an external slave cylinder. Google tells me that I can change the front covers. I know I can just buy an external slave cylinder but I'll have to run more line for the hydraulics right? Anyone have any ideas on any other options I may have?

Sorry but I am having a hard time following what you are doing. What's with the wrong bolt and cap screw situation and why can't you just put that back together? Was your original transmission actually bad?

I'm assuming the second transmission you got is out of an earlier truck? Did you have an internal slave cylinder to begin with?

I took out a bolt that supposedly holds the gear idle lever inside the transmission, or so I believe. After researching all I could I assumed that my transmission was no good so yes I then went and bought an earlier tk5 transmission that uses an internal slave with a ball stud and a lever inside the bell housing, but my truck and my original transmission was set to for a concentric slave. The reason that's a problem is because of that set up the earlier tk5 had a much larger sleeve around the input shaft, and that won't fit with the external set up

I never had any issues with the transmission though, it wouldn't shift into gear with the truck running but it would shift just fine with the truck off which leads me to now believe that my pilot bearing and clutch components were at fault. I have also confirmed that after pulling the engine out to, I want to put my transmission back in but I don't want to do that unless there's a good chance it will work I don't think there's any other way to check to make sure transmission works if it's not connected to the engine and inside the car correct? so I'm kind of at a stand still

If you wanna check a manual transmission, couldn't you chuck the very end of the input shaft up an large hand drill and have somebody spin it while you try to shift and check the output?
