I have the original build code for the transmission that was installed in the vehicle in 1984, however the transmission has been changed with several rebuilds since then (about 5). IN peperation for the next time the transmission gave me problems I decided not to return the last core and rebuild it myself. Currently I have the unit dissasembled in my shop. What happened to it is the main drive gear and first counter cluster cluster gear are destroyed. Teeth missing gears woren ect. I have read in the forum over the last few years that this type of failure is common to this transmission. Usually caused by an input shaft bearing failure.
I am kind of perplexed by the way the rebuilders repaired the transmission. From what I have read in the Ford Ranger manual it seems the shimming for the two shafts is critical (Main drive (input) and counter shaft). The clearances between the snap rings on these two bearing (main drive and counter shaft) and case halves appears to be between 0.0000" and 0.0015". Reassembly of the front case assembly is acomplished by close interfearance parts without gasketing only sealants. All remanufactured transmissions have been assembled with gaskets. Anybody have any comments?
Finally back to my original question. If I am to purchase any new parts for the transmission I am repairing, what information will need to give the gear supplyers for the correct parts. I dont have the build code for the transmission dissasembled in the shop.

Again thanks for everybodys help.
