Does anyone know if I can use Honda ATF in my manual transmission? I've got a bunch of it in unmarked jugs. I went to walmart and the mercon ATF said it works in hondas, so it should be good, right?

Should be fine.

I did a little searching. The consensus was that the Honda Z1 breaks down and allows slippage considerably sooner also the shifts are sloppier than say Valvoline Dex/Merc.

Sounds like the applications are similar and it would work fine but may break down quicker also have less firm crisp shifts
Most guys have switched over their Honda and Saturns to aftermarket fluid for this reason. Being that you have it free and in bulk though... I'd use it up.

Edit: hmmm he did say manual, why did I not catch that on round one? I'm thinking it would be awful thin and not give much protection on hard gears meshing.

most of those points are moot for a manual transmission... so I wouldn't worry about it and just use it since you have it...
