Here's my data tag: H0373 1350-37/ 100058 E87A-FA

I've twice experienced immediate stoppage and binding while backing up kind of rapidly while in 2wd mode. I thought it was my rear shoes, but that turned out not to be the issue because i Shifted to neutral (manual trans) and the binding was there when I tried letting out the clutch. I had to shut off engine and work the clutch and shifter then re start to move forward again, then back up slowly to make the turn I had inadvertently missed on the first instance, and simply backing from my shop a little fast in the second.

Can anyone shed some light on this? I've searched for rebuild videos of the 1350 but only find the 1354 and higher cases with videos, I have a PDF of rebuilding one, I also have experience in the mechanical realm for decades but never ran into this before.
I'm going to remove my skid plate and check oil levels in trans and transfer case, and take photos for better ID possibilities despite the data tag. There are 96K or 196K on this truck, I am the third owner and I got it at 44,000 and change. It's never skipped a beat and I use it for Everything, even hauling 6000 lb + trucks on my 2900 lb. 24' steel deck dovetail trailer. Thanks for any assistance!

Regards,

Gary (AKA Koolminx, or Falconaround or FEandGoingBroke)

Here’s the transfer case pictures, they don’t totally jive with the 1350 electric engaged on our

OK, it is an electric shift 1350. I was mistaken when I was looking at the pictures of the four TRANS cases next to each other earlier. My apologies now if anybody could give me any thoughts and into this transfer case could cause these issues that I’m having when trying to back up sometimes?

The only way I can see that happening is if the chain is stretched to the point of binding...

that thing does not look like the oil has ever been changed

when was the last time you checked the level?

I checked the level last year when I put a new clutch in

My aunt and uncle's Bravada did that. It would go ahead fine but jam up going backwards.

I’ll be replacing the chain and seals soon.

And the outside of the case don’t tell anyone what the inside oil looks like. Just picked up a few quarts of Mercon lv

Also, With the drain plug pulled I verified that the chain is indeed verrrrry stretched. New chain on order and buying full bearing seal and pad kit to refresh it with.

It seems that my little ranger can do the work I need it to, but pulling 7000 lbs plus with it a few times a year will put that case chain through the ropes!

I don't see how the stretched chain could cause issues in 2wd as stated. I don't think the chain is driven (engaged) unless in 4-hi or 4-lo.

the T case chain drives the rear driveline. going backwards the chain in reverse piles up against the case and binds instantly. Going forward is the only thing that relieves it.

I see what you're saying. Maybe enough drag to wind up a loose chain? I mean there shouldn't be any, but if the transfer case is worn enough to have that much slack in the chain... :dntknw:

Yes, the chain and case is designed tothrow the slack downward when going forward, going in reverse the chain slack can pile up and cause binding. I had to study a schematic of the 1350 that was almost impossible to find to figure it all out.
I ordered one from E-bay on Friday, but yesterday when I got the Item shipped notification, I immediately thereafter received a full refund and cancellation with no explanation. I reckon the fella didn't have the chain after all. So I'm back to searching for another drive chain.

I towed about 7500 lbs in a Wildwood 25' camper yesterday with my baby and didn't have any issues whatsoever, but I still need to rebuild the T case.

The case isn't necessarily worn, but the Chain is definitely Stretched. Just like they do on an NP205 or the like.
