i have a 1992 ranger 2.3l w/duraspark ignition and i swap an original auto tranny with a manual from a 1990 ranger. i have bypassed the neutral start switch/ replaced the computer and yet i still have no fire to the motor. i have tested the ignition module/ replaced the ignition coils. all of the other sensors are working properly including the crank sensor but yet i cannot get the motor to start is there anyone that can give me some info on this
thanks

You swapped a duraspark ignition on your computer controlled electronic injection enigne? The Dura spark ignition is for carburated non computer controlled motors...

More specifically the 2.8L v6 motor.

You probably aren't getting any spark or fuel because the sensors can't read the simple ignition and what not...

sorry for the confusion my truck has a duraspark ignition all that i swapped was the trans from an automatic to a manual. since the computer was for a auto trans i replaced it with a comp. for a manual trans

Are you sure its a duraspark ignition? because a Duraspark ignition has NO computer in it... it has an ignition module...

Or is it a Dual Spark plug motor? That would make sense.... In which you would need the computer from another motor with the dual plugs.

yes my truck originally had a duraspark ignition system and its not the comp. im sorry its the EEC electronic engine control which i called the comp. sorry for any confusion

Your dancing around here EEC is a computer and duraspark is for carburated engines do you have a carb with the feedback solenoid. with a duraspark you have three wires coming out of the dizzy and a control module how many connectors on the control module and how many wires on each connector. I am just guessing here someone swapped the engine out of a earlier model. We need to know exactly what you have in order to help you. Pics of the dizzy and carb would help also the control module.

Guys, it dont matter what he typed. He has a 92 2.3l what the hell did it come with fromthe factory? (its DIS with dualspark. 8 plugs) He said " i swapped a 90 auto trans into my truck" So using COMMON SENSE what could he have overlooked swapping a 90 auto tranny to a 93 2.3l engine that will prevent it from starting?

Well it does because if he was saying duraspark that can have a negative affect on the auto trans because you just removed the computer.

I figured he got a dual plug ignition but he kept saying Duraspark which is making it impossible to figure out whats actually wrong.

Right now I am assuming he took a computer from the 90 which is not a dual plug motor and the 92 has the dual plugs and thus not the same and not running. Or he messed something up with the neutral safty switch and it doesn't think the clutch is pushed in...

The neutral safety switch I can completely agree with, THats what I was thinking too, but (and I dont mean any insult) but if hes sounds new enough at the whole swap thing I doubt he thought to pull the computer.

I didnt listen to his title of engine parts because alot of newer folks to ranger mislabel what they have, but they year model dont lie.

You are both half right.

92 is a dual-plug, DIS engine from the factory. A bad bypass of the NSS would cause a no crank, but not a crank, no-start.

90 was a single plug, distributor (and probably TFI) ignition system. If he pulled the computer from a 90 THAT is the first thing that needs to be fixed.

Since he swapped to a manual the trans couldn't care less about the year or program of the computer, but a 90 computer CAN'T run a 92.

To the OP: Put your original computer back in and see if it fires up. It may take some coaxing and run like crap for a few minutes, don't be afraid to lay to the gas to keep it going.

I agree, use your old computer.

okay lets see if i can clear this up, my 92 ranger has a 2.3l duraspark ignition (8 plugs-2 coils) when i swapped the tranny i purchased a new comp from autozone for a 92 ranger with a manual transmission that matched the oem # for my engine. i bypassed the neutral start switch in order to get my key to crank the engine and i think thats all it does my motor cranks and gets ample fuel pressure at the fuel rail. i have tested with an ohm meter the ignition module, the crank sensor, the ignition coils, etc. i am getting current to the coils but no fire to the cylinder. i hope this is a little clearer and thanks to all that help me withthis one its been a nightmare

Ok, now I'm going to clear something up.

That isn't duraspark. That is dual-spark DIS.

I still say try it with the original computer, see what happens.

Power going into the coil does not automatically equal fire coming out the plugs. If the PCM isn't grounding, or breaking ground on the coils then they won't fire. We know it ran with the old PCM, if you plug that in (assuming you still have it) and it still doesn't fire, we can probably rule out the new one as the source of the problem.
