well i posted b4 as my rear end issues...rebuilt the rear end and now the driveshaft wont spin...where as it did b4 i rebuilt the rear end (and i have ppl that will vouch for this) so im left to do some work in this area now.... how do i test my tranny, tcase, and torque converter???? is it one of those things where i will have to drop them from the truck and take them to a shop to have them tested or is there something i can do at home? and could this also possibly be that my filter is just clogged? and further help would be appreciated since now im beyond the rear end (i still dont understand how it would spin b4 i rebuilt the rear end but not now) and on to the tranny now...thanks in advance

well, no expert here, but some ideas.

unbolt the rear driveshaft from the T-case. and jack up the rearend, see if you can spin the driveshaft by hand just to make sure its not in the rearend thats causing it to jam.

other than that we need some more info. what vehicle do you have? tranny? t-case, is the t-case manual or electric?

well i just rebuilt the rear end and i know its not the rear end jamming it up (i just put it under the truck again today and i could spin it by hand... i have a 94 explorer Xlt with the 4.0 engine and an a4ld tranny no idea which trnasfer case yet (i havent looked) but it is the stupit push button electric sh*t! could just the tranny filter being clogged cause this (the cheapest thing i can think of lol) and how can i get these parts tested (tranny, tcase, torque converter) to see where my problem relys? oh and more info on what she is doing...i can put it in 4wheel drive or leave it in 2 wheel drive and i will put it in any gear.... and the truck will have to be revved to about 3500 rpm and it will slowy move (no more than 3 mph or so) and then once you drop below that rev point it wont move...and also if say you stop and put in it neutral it takes it a minute for the rpms to drop...it acts like it still wants to spin without me being on the gas... you can feel it shift into the diff gears (you feel the brief jerk just like normal) and then sometimes when in park the rpms will drop and raise between the 800 rpm and 1100 rpm range? any of this click in a problem (just please dont tell em the whole tranny i am looking for a more specific answer to try and fix it without replacing a whole tranny if it is possible to do so)

I would focus on the trans cuz the tcase would not allow the "slip" your getting, it's either in gear or neutral so it's power to the wheels or none at all. Don't get offended but is it full of fluid(trans)? I don't have the most experience with automatics but I would have to say either torque converter or the pump. I know that on a c4 you can tap into a pressure port to test the pump and I believe the a4ld has a test port. The problem is if I remember correctly, the torque converter needs to function to spin the pump. It's not the most helpful answer but maybe it give you some direction. I suggest finding a reputable tranny shop(ask around lots) then go talk to one of the techs and see if they can give you a better answer and maybe an idea what it would cost to diagnose and/or repair.

oh yes she is full of fluid...thats the first thing i checked.... i just dont wanna tear into this thing and rebuild say the whole tranny when its only something small or smaller like say the pump/torque converter....and more info on this test port please?

What condition is the fluid in? Dark? Smell burnt?

I still think you have a transmission that is toast.

the fluid is quite dark and no it doesnt smell burnt.... and i know u believe my tranny is toast...but that means something is wrong within it and surely u can give more idea's than that....

If its slipping that bad, the friction discs are probably toast.

as for the test port, I am not sure if an a4ld has one but on my c4 it's on the driver side, just has a plug. I think you can also tap into the cooling lines, hook a t-fitting on the hot line and run a trans pressure gauge, but that can be a pain and can run around 50-80 for a gauge if you don't have one.

When my c4 blew up, the first part to go was the pump and it made a whining sound similar to a gear drive timing set, then the trans just stop working. Acted like it was in neutral.

If the torque converter is bad you can usually get away with just replacing it and nothing else, if it's anything inside the trans then the whole thing is most likely wiped out, including the torque converter. You had mentioned that you feel it going into gear which would suggest that the pump is functioning, if so then most likely the clutches/friction plates are worn out or destroyed.

I could be completely wrong ,but I read in the tech section that the speed sensor in the rear axle sends info that controls torque converter clutch, shift scheduling and a few other thing. Seeing as how you rebuilt the rear end ,maybe this sensor got damaged?

i pulled my tranny out today and when i pulled off the torque converter. i went to dump the fluid out of it and it sounded almost like there was a bunch of rocks in it. im assuming that isnt normal. so i put my finger down the hole to where there are splines and tried to just push it off to the side and it moves...alot! would this be my problem and would it have possibly damaged anything else in the tranny? cuz if all i need is a new torque converter that would be alot better than a tranny for me lol thanks in advance.
