Bare with me please, ive searched and used the tech forum and couldn't find the info i was looking for. Im not a newb but must have lost my loggin when the RS switched forums a couple years ago.

Heres the situation, acquired a 93 second gen with 2.3 and 5spd. What are the best options for gearing? I like the 2.3 motor and want to keep it, ive been down the doubler road before and dont like the setup. I would really like to get a dana 300 or np 205 in there somehow. Or another option would be the toyota gear case. so. . . . . .

I know the mazda trannys are the only ones that bolt up to the 2.3, or am i missing something?

Is there another t-case that will "adapt" to the 4cyl tranny?

Any help is appreciated

The rbv cases and trannies have a 25 Spline count. Unfortunately, unless you get an atlas, you are limited. You might be able to get a Dana 20 from an EB and have AA get you a spud shaft and adapter plate, but that's some $$...getting the toy case to bolt up would require adapting the case to the trans, like fabbing a doubler. I would regear the axles if you don't like the doubler setup. However, if you have electric 4x4, you can use the e case as your rear case, and the shifter as your reduction box shifter...

25 spline on the tranny output also? I wouldnt be apposed to making an adapter plate and having a spud shaft made to adapt to a 300 or something. Like i stated above, the 1350-1354 doubler isnt an option for me. They always leak and the cases themselves are not the strongest.

Any of you guys know what the output spline on the motor is?

Output spline on the shift motor?

It's just a triangular boss.

Do you mean the clutch splines on the tranny? I think most 4 cyl rangers used a 10 spline clutch for the transmission input. Mustangs (T5 input) used 23 spline I believe.

If you are looking for more options, esp. np205 etc. then maybe a transmission and transfer case swap is what you're looking for. There are a number of sources for 2.0/2.3 bellhousing adapters to go to a Ford smallblock pattern.
