Where and how do I properly splice into the wiring on my 1994 for trailer lights? Do they make a splice that will do that cleanly without a chance for corrosion? Thanks,Scott

AutoZone sells a plug-in connector harness, for under $20.

There is a connector on the drivers side behind the rear bumper. It'll be a single connector that plugs together and when you unplug it, the tail lights should stop working.

Any major chain store (I bought one a Meijers) or autoparts store, maybe even hardware/home improvement stores will have them too. But it just plugs inline with that connector and converts everything to a 4-pin trailer plug.

Hopefully this pic allows being linked:

Kinda like this

Though they do sell them with a long wire harness going directly from the converter box.

Posting in the correct section would probably help out more, but I think they pretty much covered it.

Reese also makes a t-connector like the one posted above

They also have em at Walmart

anyone had experience with these causing blinkers to flash abnormally when no trailer is plugged in? My fullsize blinks rapidly as if a blinker were out (none are, i've checked) unless i either take the T out, hook up a trailer and plug everything in.

You may have to swap out your flasher to an HD or electronic unit. The adapter may be taking away the load of the downstream lights...

fwiw its just the turns, when i put on my 4 ways, they flash normal speed....

The 4 ways have a larger load (4 bulbs VS 2 for turn), and I don't think the hazard circuit has the fast-flash flasher in it....

thanks svt! I'm too stubborn to actually buy a manual for the truck so i've just been putting up with the double flashing, then when it starts to piss me off i pull the T out. next thing i know someone wants me to move something for them and back in it goes.

:icon_thumby: No prob, electrical can be troublesome and frustrating, but it just happens to be one of my strong areas...

well, while we're here, where do i find an appropriate flasher? I checked out rock auto, they've got an ac delco brand but i'm pretty sure its just a factory replacement.

*nvm, it seems the O'Reillys down the road has them in bulk
