ok so ive done some thinkin, so my 89 ranger has a tranny that is toast (5speed) a tired 2.9. i was thinkin of tossing my old mudders on and putting it up for a trade. a fox body mustang or a 2.3 reg cab ranger (gen2) i want to build something for the street, and seeing how i own a 90 thats a crawler i dont have the use for my 4x4. i kno it will cost alot more for me to drive a mustang beacuse im 19 and i have 1 speeding ticket. whats your thoughts?:icon_confused:

Yeah... I think you'll really be spending a lot. You gotta have lots of funds first.

Get a 2.3L mustang and swap 2.3T/5.0 for cheap? Insurance can't be too much for a vehicle that's valued at $1500 according to the VIN.

thats what i was lookin at, but if i did it, i would do it right, full over haul of the motor and tranny and that aint cheap:sad:

You would be money ahead if you put a tranny in your truck and sold it. It might cost 500 but you would increase the value of the truck by atleast 1000.

thats the thing, should i keep the ranger put a tranny and drive the piss out of it more? the cost to inshure it is awesome, plus i kno id miss haveing it. but on the other side i got one thats a crawler and one thats my DD

It isn't the cost to repair or replace that is the deal breaker, it is the cost of damage it is capible of... usually medical.

I say fix and drive the ranger for a bit, but keep an eye out for a mustang or gen2 ranger that you want, I bet you find a great deal if you wait a bit, and then you still have the ranger to use while working on the new vehicle. My friend did that and found a 96 2.3l with 100k and a 5 speed for 400 bucks, it only had a small dent on the passenger door, other than that the body was pretty nice no rust and it ran great.

fix the damn thing. it becomes a MUCH smaller project to fix things the longer you own a vehicle. i hope you know what anti-seize and lock-tite are, if you do your repairs will slowly become easier because YOU put them together the last time they broke. there are many terrible projects to do on a RBV that has not been pulled apart since the day it left the show room floor. clutch, front axle u-joints, radius arm removal, leaf springs, and many more. most of the things i listed are issues with most older vehicles but once you have taken them apart once its a cake job the next time around.

I bet you will be money ahead if you keep the truck, mustang=HAUL ASS= speeding tickets.....speding tickets = high insurance.

truck with big tires = crusing along, looking down on boobies and no speeding tickets = money in pocket to take the boobies out.truck wiht big tires = getting in to nature withthe boobies.....saves on hotel rooms lol.

As you might recall, I picked up my '87 2.3 ranger for $300 in Evergreen. There are deals to be had, if you are patient and cash on hand. That is, if you decide to go that route. All I did was search craigslist everyday, and jumped on this one as soon as I saw it!

And you could always swap out the engine/trans on yours for a 2wd setup, and save some money is gas.
