traction bars?

Here's the cheap and effective way, if you have lift blocks. Just chop up some spare leafs so they only extend from the axle forward and weld a sub-shackle to the front hanger. This is on my skoolie.

this is going to sound stupid but what are the traction bars for what does it do

in high torque situations the springs get a "wave" to them and can cause "wheel hop" .....if ya ever seen someone do a burn-out and the wheel sorta just bounces.......

with a "traction bar" this keeps the axle from twisting the spring into the "wave" and no more "wheel hop"

there are several different types....

some are called "torque arms" and run close to the center by the diff up the length of the drive shaft

some are called "slappers"... these are the ones usually found on older muscle cars bolted to the bottom of leaf springs with a rubber bump stop mounted to the front of the box tube

and then there are "ladder bars" such as the ones Pro-Comp sells that ride next to the leafs as an extra with their lifts....

i don't see the pic! :dunno: i was thinking about copying the James Duff design, the longer ones, but we'll see. i saw those pro-comp ones and thought they looked pretty good too.

when you're wheeling have ya had to worry about those bars hitting stuff? cause i've got some axle wrap/wheel hop, thats the biggest reason why i'm wanting to do the traction bars, just dont wanna pay 350 for ladder types that hook up to the axle tubes.

I'm tall enough suspension wise that I don't come anywhere close....I don't think even stock the ubolt bracket comes even close to hitting the frame. On my truck with one tire fully stuffed and one in the air, comes no where close.

I will eventually build myself a ladder w/ shackle. My friend built one for his ranger and it performed flawlessly...down shift the whole ass end of the truck sucked down, acceleration the ass end moved up.

the duff bars dont stop the rearend from flexing??? It looks like they would to me. I plan on makin a set for my 94 soon like the duff bars.
