trac lok carrier questions??

I have a 8.8 trac lok rear diff in my ranger. What I was wondering is if I could pull the axles out, spider gears, then take the trac lok carrier with the ring gear still on it out, and leave just the pinion gear in the housing? Then reinstall a different carrier with the old ring gear bolted to it back in without having to worry about setting up the gears??

You could get lucky and not have to set up the gears........but I wouldn't do it.

Never mix ring & pinions from different gear sets, they are machined & matched as a set (doesn't matter if they are the same ratio).

(and even using your original ring gear on a different carrier, you still would need to make sure you have proper preload on your carrier bearings, and that the gear backlash is correct)
