TPS 10 volts!?

This last one sure reads like lack of fuel, the sitting and then rough start and then stall out at higher RPMs with a no start right after.

Computer does have a "limp mode" and you can set that by unplugging the MAF sensor.
Computer then runs pre-set table for fuel mix and basic 10deg BTDC spark timing.
Barely drivable but should idle OK.

If not then computer is bad or there is a mechanical issue

Sorry for the delay in posting on this issue, nasty weather has ensued here and I'm not too hip to working out in the cold. I opened up the passenger kick panel anticipating finding the brain but instead found the stereo amplifier. Where is this faulty organ that I may rip it out and play in its grey matter? Were all of the '94 4.0's the same part number for the ECM? Thanks.

OK, found ECM tucked away in the driver's side of the firewall. Have it out & cracked the cranium. Found a little fried spot smaller than the head of an eraser just under a spiffy looking small blue cylindrical thingamajig. After an even closer peek, one of the two little wire legs seems to be fried through & not actually attached. I'd have to think this has been the problem all along. At least I hope so. I've ordered the new brain from RockAuto, it'll be here in 3-6 days and I'll let you all know how it turns out. I'm keeping my blue fingers crossed!

Got my new computer in from RockAuto and am raring to go in this beautiful weather to get it installed. The info sheet inside the box for the new (clearly a generic sheet referencing some items/functions certainly not Ranger-specific) mentions being sure to go through the "re-learning" process that is vehicle specific. Is there a process other than plugging it in & firing it up? I just don't want to kill my pricey new little box of thoughts. Anyone out there familiar with this?

Idle relearn is 4 minutes in each of the following conditions without touching the gas pedal:

Park
Park with AC on
Drive with foot on brake
Drive with foot on brake and AC on

Drive Cycle is not a big deal in your case.

Fire it up and see how it does!

Update on the ongoing saga of the schizophrenic Ranger, got the new brain installed in it, started it up, idled like crap, would occasionally smooth out for just a moment allowing for a bit of false hope then dash it with further crappy behavior. I have to admit I really anticipated hearing it purr after seeing the burnt spot in the old brain. CEL on almost immediately, decided to drive it a couple of blocks after completing the re-learning process outlined above. It backed itself out of the garage but would die the instant you put your foot on the gas to pull forward. Good enough fuel pressure at the rail (36PSI), but it really felt like it was just running out of fuel. Cried a little, then unplugged the MAF (you know, the new one that tests OK) and the idle jumped right up to where it belongs and I drove it for the next two days w/o issue except a tendency to not want to shift out of first when first started and technically still cold in the morning. No more stalling the engine, no more on off on off at 1/3 throttle or more, good power, smooth running, smooth idling and for the most part smooth shifting. CEL on of course. Took the MAF off another well running Ranger and swapped it to that one. Same crap. Haunted?:annoyed::icon_confused:
