Tow Pig / Daily Driver Build

I got my windows tinted. They are Indiana legal, 20% rear sides and rear windows and 30% front door windows.

Much better looking, cooler in the 94+ heat, and keeps people from being nosey.

I got a new set of shocks. Took forever to get them from 4 Wheel Parts (3 weeks).

Old vs. New:

Good lookin truck! The only thing I ever disliked about that body style is how low the rear bumper sits, like 'oops, we mounted it 3" too low.... Fawk it, it's friday' lol.

Yea it does sit low. I never really noticed that till you said something.

I decided to see what the fuel pressure was. Just so happens that a normal fuel pressure gauge to go on the schrader valve wouldn't fit because of the mount to lift the engine out. I decided to build my own. It was quite easy with some 1/8" brass fittings and a 300PSI liquid filled gauge.

Started by removing the HPOP and fuel bowl cover.

Put everything back together and got this. I kept the schrader valve in case I ever wanted to check the gauge itself. This way also made it easier to get to the schrader valve.

This was my fuel pressure right after putting the gauge on. (bounced between 25-40PSI)

I found a little modification on the diesel forums that increased the fuel pressure up to 70PSI and smooth out the idle and performance of the truck.

I removed this out of the fuel bowl.

I put in a zinc plated BB in below the spring.

Once I put this back into the fuel bowl, I got this PSI on my gauge. (bounced between 50-70PSI)

It seems to idle a little better now. I haven't driven it yet, but I would imagine it will run better as well.

I installed a HPOP cross over line. It helps smooth out spikes in PSI in the high pressure oil that runs the Powerstroke fuel injectors.

I picked this up from Strictly Diesel ( http://shop.strictlydiesel.com/store.php/products/KCM_OBS_HPX ). After installing and starting the truck, the injectors seem to be a bit quieter than before. I have yet to drive it with the cross over.

This is a quality piece. It took me about 20 minutes to install.

I'm not sure if it's been documented, but dirty oil (or oil which has depleated additive package) or heavily aerated oil can and will cause power loss. Remember, these injectors operate on the premise of pressurized oil. If that oil's bulk modulus changes, the compressibility of the oil changes, and decreases injector performance (usually reduces duration). Keeping on top of that is important.

Looking good Maurice.

Oil changes are a priority. Ford recommends every 5,000 miles. I have been changing it every 4,000 and have been using Rotella 15w40 with either a WIX or Motorcraft filter.no have also been changing the fuel filter ever 2,500-3,000 miles with a WIX. I know Ford recommends every 15,000 but with the new fuels that are out, the old filter looks black when coming out.

I have started collecting parts to put an intercooler on. I am interested to see how the difference is with the intercooler.

You put your shocks on upside down Maurice....

You put your shocks on upside down Maurice....
No kidding?

Everything set of 5100's were that way. I will have to look into that. I don't want to have $300 shocks that get wasted cause they are upside down.

You put your shocks on upside down Maurice....
You were not kidding. The fronts were upside down. The writing on them was upside down so I called Bilstein tech support. They said the writing was to be read and if it was upside down the shock was upside down.

After I got them flipped over, the truck rides 100x better. It rides a ton smoother. :yahoo:

Awesome!

I just put 5100's on my superduty as well.
