Looking to have my 2003 transfer case 4x4 module programmed for tow flat.

But the only operation instructions I can find are for the F150 or the Explorer. This is what I've found that seems to apply. Can anyone verify one way or the other?

TO SHIFT THE TRANSFER CASE INTO NEUTRAL FOR TOWING:
  • Securely attach vehicle to towing vehicle
  • Start the engine to make sure battery is properly charged.
  • Make sure the vehicle is at a complete stop and shifted into two wheel drive.
  • Place the automatic transmission into NEUTRAL.
  • Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, but steering wheel is NOT LOCKED.
  • Depress the brake pedal for 5 seconds.
  • The neutral light will go through a bulb check, ; then stay on to indicate the transfer case is in neutral.
  • Leave the ignition switch off but steering not locked and transmission shifter in NEUTRAL while vehicle is in tow.

your Ranger cannot be "programmed" for flat towing.
for Ford's recommended procedure go to the top of this page and select tech library, then 1983-2011 Ford Ranger tech, go down less than 1 page and
select owners manual, select 2003, scroll down to page 148.

your 2003 does not like to be flat towed unless both driveshafts are removed.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to install my Shifster MK2 then. I had a feeling that was the case since the feed wire from the 4x4 module was not there for the indicator light. I put the same question out on one of the RV forums, and that was the general consensus. If it had the wire for the light, it could be programmed, if it didn't, then the Shifster was my only option.
