Hey, here's an update guys. thanks for all the suggestions and I did take a few of them and they worked. I called my insurance company and they said that about the only thing they could do is contact them and find out how they were determining the value and let them know what they value the car at.
I did more research and did find a few for sale for around $2100-$2400 with the automatic trans (that I have) and similar miles.
I called the guy and made a counter offer of $2100(the amount of the damage) minus the salvage value ($250).
They had no problem with this and didn't even counter offer. I was really expecting them to...
The out come is I will be getting a check for $1850 and I keep the car and title. The title won't even be salvage or rebuilt. A clean title.
I am pleased with this. I was a fair deal to me since I only paid $1200 for the car and the car is still totally drivable with only cosmetic damage, has been reliable.
