torsen warranty

I've heard that in the smaller trucks, they are perfect. Installed in the 1500 Silverados and you are bound to have issues.

You are right, Toyota has nailed it. But you do pay for it.

the toyota 4x4 club i wheel with has a huge number of people who use the e-lockers, and i hear next to no complaints about them... infact if a truck shows up in the local jy with one, it's posted on the forum, and usually within a day someone has grabbed it...

It's been quite the interesting e-mail back and forth between myself and the guys at Torsen.

Basically they have said that my diff is functioning properly, and I need not worry about it. I am however still going to press for warranty at the dealer - as it is just about as effective as an open diff to me. There are alot of times when I have 90% of the axles weight on one tire, and 10% on the other (tire on a rock)... It acts damn near like an open diff. I find myself having to approach obstacles with more speed than I should have, resulting in things like broken front CV shafts.

After being caught with a broken front CV axle in the bush the other day, you quickly realize how little the Torsen actually does offroad. After our Mexico trip in Feb, i'll be looking into an e-locker.

i don't know dude, i find myself spinning both rear wheels 90% of the time i have traction issues... the only time i had an "open diff" type situation was when i was transitioning from both rear wheels and one front on the ground to both front and one rear wheel, in which case i had to bump it a little more than i wanted with how off camber i was to begin with

Did you notice a difference going from the differential that came out of the truck, to the new differential your Ford dealer put in?

traction wise? absolutely! driveability/streetability, no...

I do know as the tire size gets bigger they get more useless.

I know a few guys with Detroit TruTracs in the fronts of their wheeling rigs, and they have to constantly apply brake bias to it to get both wheels to hook up...
