Tools, homemade and moded

Naaahghhhh! I lied about 30 years....

So I figured this one out a couple months ago. You know how the cordless drill or driver comes with the clip on the side to hold the Phillips/slotted bit, and it never really holds the bit, it’s always missing when you go looking for it?

I took a short piece of vacuum tube, and the cheap Chinese friction tape you use to clean up wires and made this. I wrapped the friction tape tightly around the tube first, and then I positioned the tube so it doesn’t interfere with my grip. Works perfectly! Do it quick before I patent it for a zillion dollars.

Here are a few things I built over the years. Off road hoist, tilt trailer, quad choke cable sockets, torch/welder Dolly, and the last two are of my solar and wind powered portable machine shop. The list goes on, but I enjoy designing and building whatever.

I've noticed that there are a lot of people who make their own hand

tools, so I figured I'd join their ranks. Everyone knows what the small set is for, the big ones are for my 86 E-350 short bus with a 6.9L Cummins diesel. It's still a work in progress, but it'll come in handy for hauling animal feed.

I know I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, so I have to ask, what is the item in the picture, and what does it do ? I've been told that the only stupid question is one you don't ask, hopefully that statement is still true. I guess I'll just have to wait and see !

The XLR-11 engine from the Bell X-1 plane flown by Chuck Yeager in the first supersonic flight. For all intents and purposes, it was a homemade tool...

Thank you, I appreciate you taking the time to let me know what it is. No matter what, it looks cool and sorta intimidating.
