Interested in what people do to make things easier, I like building my own stuff when I can, so I'm looking for winter projects.
The other day we decided hooking the engine hoist to the 3 point hitch on the old mini tractor would be easier than dragging it around on the gravel driveway.. EZ mod and I can always bolt the legs back on to use stand alone again.

But seriously, up until a couple of years ago as long as you had insurance the local LEOs didn't care, as long as you didn't travel too far from home. Recently they've started cracking down, Farm plates and all that..

The other day I was asked by a co-worker if I was missing "half a wrench". I then had to go into an in-depth explanation for the new kid why I have a 25mm wrench that I cut in half.

The lower EGR tube nut on my Ranger is 25 mm. The full length wrench did not have enough room to swing at all, so I cut it in half. I then found that the box end is handy for the top of my brake clean sprayer, and tends to end up all over the shop.

I have several special home made tools. I had a pair of open end wrenches with about a 2 1/2" offset in the handles and extended handles for setting valve lash on Mercedes Om617 diesels. I let those go with the car when I sold it.

I have a modified ball joint c clamp tool from the Honda CR-V days. The u-joint cups were too small for the press pin. I had to grind it down so the pin would fit in the yoke.

I have a home made tool that presses distributor gears off the shaft, a trailer dolly made out of an old snow blower base, a home made tool to compress the clutch pack springs in my C4, a small screwdriver with a short piece of tubing over the blade so I can tweak the carb adjustments on my chainsaw while it's running, and a bunch of ground or bent metric wrenches left over from replacing cam chain guides on those NFG Mazda/Couriers 40 years ago. Necessity is the mother of invention, not wanting to buy what I could make is the father. It's not being cheap, it's being frugal.

About four years ago I was rebuilding the cooling system in my 4.9, so I build a low profile 52?mm wrench to get the fan clutch off. I made it out of a scrap stainless plate from work

It worked, but the shitty welder I had, the 6013, did not like the stainless. So the welds look like shit.

last summer I was rebuild the rear end on the same truck and I needed something to hold the pinion flange while torquing the pinion nut. So I drilled four holes in it to bolt it to the flange and welded some 1/8” flat stock from tractor supply to it to leverage.

HingePins replaced with JamBolts+Nuts for using Socket+Extension+Ratchet.
Velcro added inside of strap for better grip.
Makes stubborn OilFilter removal easier in tight quarters.
