I have a '00 Ranger 3.0 V6, and I am probably going to get a Ford 8.8 axles with 4.56 gears. Is that a good set up for the rear? What should I run in the front? I want to be able to put shocks on a solid axle, for the front. Any and all imput would be greatful. Thanks, Matt

That depends on your cash flow, but a higly popular swap is the d44 from an EB. It's almost 100% bolt in, already the width to fit the ranger, and plentiful...if you happen to find one with both axles still in it, grab both, d44 up front with a ford 9 out back...good luck and have fun:icon_thumby:

Are you talking about a bronco II, and what is the best years for the axles?

EB- Early Bronco 1966-1974 the used a solid dana 44 up front the width of a ranger and a 9 inch ford out back matching the width. check the tech section, they should have a writeup on it under SAS swaps...

Ya I know I have a 7.5 rear axle and IFS.

What I meant was this...3) 1998-up 4x4 supercab Rangers regardless of powerplant are frequently equipped with 8.8" axles

I posted the link so you could check your code and see if you ALREADY had the 8.8. I too have a 99 4x4 so we have the same setup...

66 to 71 eb had the dana3o i think not the dana44 and the 9in is only 28 spine p.o.s only can handle like a 33. grab a isuzo rodeo or a honda pastport rear. them came with dana44 non c-clip and disk brakes . 93to 96 our 58in wide the same as eb dana 44.

are junkyards my best bet to find axles? I've been looking online and they are way too expensive.

I'd look on Craigslist... Don't bother with the Rodeo, it's just a D44... An explorer 8.8" will be way better than a rear 44... If you went with the EB axles, the rear 9" is still better than a rear D44...

Just rear... 31spl 8.8" (rear) and HP D44 (front) would be your best bet... If you are gonna break that you'll need to go to 1 ton running gear (14bFF, D60's, Sterling 10.25, etc)... If you're asking this kind of question though (not to be rude) you need to do ALOT more searching...

A travel-all? hmm.. ok, lol... about the Rodeo/Passport rear axle, they didn't get the Dana 44 until '98, up until then it was a GM/Isuzu corporate 12-bolt... not bad, but an 8.8" (31 spl) would still be better... Good luck...
