i have a 98 ranger 4x4 5r55e trans. will the tire size effect the shifting? it has 235-75-15 on it. it calls for 265-75-15

btttttttttttt

Wont bother the tranny at all. It will actually be easier on the tranny. However your speedometer and Odometer will be off. They will read high. Theres nothing to worry about really.

Actually, it could confuse the transmission some.

It is programmed to shift at certain speed's/RPM's.

If it is seeing the speed and the RPM is not where it thinks it should be, it may throw a CEL.

It will also make your odometer read high as well. $25-$50 at a good dealership and they should be able to recalibrate it with their computer.

i was thinking the same as jspafford because it has a sensor on the rearend and that is a big size in tire difference. the od light is flashing. took it to a shop they said the code was reading "missing 5th gear"

Big?

I'd hate to see what you guys consider small.

That's a 1 inch difference in diameter. Comparable to the difference between 30 PSI and 40 PSI on the same tire.

Yeah, you can have the dealer try to recalibrate it for you. It wouldn't have worked with the older gear-driven speedometers, but you have an electronic one. But make sure your tires are properly inflated AND the vehicle normally loaded before you go after the few-percent you're looking for.
