I just upgraded the tires on my 2008 ranger. I put new goodyear TA radials on.
Now the tire pressure monitoring light flashes upon stating and then stays on all the time. The tire pressure in the new tires is good.
What gives and how do I turn it off...it bugs me.
thanks

did you just do tires, or did you do wheels too?

I just reviewed the 08' Ranger manual. According to it, its a malfunction of the TPMS. The sensor is located on the inside, 180* away from the valve stem. My suggestion is to have the tire shop that you took it to have a look at it. Most likely, they might have broken or removed the senosr and caused the malfunction. And if so, they should pay for the damage. Also, if you also installed new wheels without the sensors. That could also be a cause.

I work as mechanic in a tire shop. TPMS sensor do brake if the tire mech doesn't know what they are looking for. Or the proper method to remove/install the tire without damaging the sensor.

Are you guys saying that the sensor is on the wheel and needs to be moved to the new wheels?
I did change the wheels... American racing wheels..

yep there on the inside of your old wheels, 180deg out from the valve stem

Well, theres your problem. You didn't switch over the TPMS sensors. If you want the TPMS to work, you are going need to switch the sensors over also.

Well either that 2008 doesn't have sensors or the guys that put the new wheels and tires on took them off. I can't see where they would have done anything with the old wheels other that taking them off the truck and putting them in the bed.
I checked the stock wheels and there is nothing on the inside or outside.
I am wondering if there is a fuse that just controls this system that I could take out so the dash light would not be on or should I take it to ford?

Their is no sensor.. It goes by your abs sensor, if the tires are not spinning at the same rate, your abs sensors will read different rpms and that will flick the light on the dash

On some models of Ford, like the windstar. Usually with the passive TPMS, theres a reset button you have to press & hold after correcting the tries' pressure. Look up on Ford's website and do a search for 2008 Ranger Owners Manual. They specially listed it in the owners guide.

I'm thinking the tire shop might have removed them. Call the shop and ask.

Well, last night I tired the reset listed for the windstar I found on line and this morning....no light. I guess it's fixed. I know the guys at big O tires did not take anything off the wheels cuz I watched them take them off the truck and toss them in the bed so this means camma83 is correct in that there are no sensors, it works off of the ABS sensor.
Thanks for all the help.

so did they even take the tires off the old rims? if you get the light back on, you may want to check on the other sensors. they should be on a band wrapped around the wheel. youll have to take the tires off to get to them though.

I don't think thats the case. I drove around today and no light.
It sure would be a pain to take my stock wheels that are still on the stock rims down to the tire place and have them unmounted and my new tires unmounted and look for some sensors....wow to much work!

then u never looked inside the wheels, just on the backside, and front, on ford i have seen them mounted via a band on the inside of the wheel
