Timing cover potential for ruining Oil pan gasket

What does that "holding device", "J" do? I think on some of those cheapies and home made there was somthing like that for lifting it
The J shaped bar that goes perpendicular to the hoist I think was sold as an accessory to be used as a stabilizing bar. I’ll put these manuals here in case anyone finds one of them out in the wilds.

Something seems to me to be amiss there Ede.
Looking through the papers it is called an Engine Transmission lifting device. It is called a Transmission lifting device.

But Nowhere is it called specifically an Engine Lifting Device

I have seen directions from China have this type of lapse, even had a 12" Planer would have you rolling just trying to read it, but still I felt this worth mentioning. How did they get it so mis-directed

I think the specific application is as transmission or engine support bar when one or the other is dropped through the sub-frame.

That allows you to pull the oil pan totally out while engine hangs inside the engine bay?
Did you get all the instruction material with the lift?

Yep, although it’s a tight fit. Nearly there. I had to buy a second copy because I lost my last one in a move.

Awesome man. Don't get yer fingers caught in there

They weren’t kidding about a “tight fit”.

Is it easier to pull the motor on a 3.0 or pull the trans? I got the motor lifted to it's max and the trans jacked up. I unbolted the oil pump and it dropped in the pan, but the shaft is still in the motor. I've tried lifting the pump with a long screwdrivers/pry bar to maneuver the pan but don't have enough clearance.

I am looking for an engine lift and or transmission jack because I think either method will provide the clearance I need. I can't imagine having to install the pan and the pump as an assembly with such limited space.

Looks kinda like a ship in a bottle.
I got one of those HF 1/2 inch ratchet type jacks. They work fairly well if you use the right leveling blocks under em
