My 97 broke the timing belt. I have 150,000 in her. I just put a new clutch, slave cylinder and flywheel in 20 miles ago. Does it make sense to try to find a engine for it? Not sure how to proceed. Help.

You have a non-interference engine. No damage occurs when the belt brakes. Just replace the belt and drive it.

Seconded. Nothing is broken except the belt, no valves are bent. Got get a $50 belt kit, line up your marks, throw the belt on, and get back to driving.

Engineers thought with their brains and not their colons when that engine was designed.

The two posts are bang on. One thing to note is there are two styles of sprockets/belt teeth. Rounded teeth and square teeth. Take the old one with you when you get the replacement, or be sure to verify it matches when you go to install.
If that is a problem, get two belts, and return the one that doesn't match. You may not have any question at all, but I don't have the year the changeover happened memorized, and you could have a different year replacement installed unless you owned from new.

As others have said just replace the timing belt and drive her for another 150,000 miles. While you are at it replace the water pump and thermostat.

No it's not worth finding an engine for it. I'd be happy to take the truck off your hands. :icon_twisted:

Also note, there are two different timing marks on those gears. One is a diamond, one is a triangle. Make sure the marks match between the gear and the back cover.

My 97 also broke, while driving. The only damage from mine was self induced by not getting those marks correct. ... for 20,000 miles. I had gotten the cam correct, but the lower one where the cam used to be in these engines I had lined up incorrectly, and this is where it senses the camshaft position from. It ran worse and worse and worse until finally f you gave it too much gas on the highway it felt like the engine was trying to escape out from under the hood. I knew it wasn't running right, and re did it like 5 times until on a help post someone pointed out those different marks.
