Timing belt mileage before it broke?

Mine lasted just over 200,000 miles before it went. As much of a pain in the ass it was to change, it'll probably be close to 150-200,000 more miles before I change it again.

Of course, by the time I finally figured out the stupid timing marks I had it apart so often it only took me 15 minutes to get down to the belt...

Why wait until it breaks? Line it up and replace it, unless you like being stranded.

Honestly that's the best solution. And since you have the engine torn down you can do maintenance things that'll keep the engine running for ever.

Timing belts on these engines are stupid easy. Assuming you're talking about the Lima blocks 2.3's/2.5's

I've seen them go at 75k (that truck sat A LOT though)...just replace the thing before it breaks and save yourself the hassle.

Bought the truck used at 140k, threw the belt at 180k New one rusn fine still @ 210k

It has a chain.

Measure your stretch on chains though...they can fatigue.

I am sure everybody tears down their engines to check stretch...

There's hardly any tear down involved. Set the crank at 0° with #1 on the compression stroke. Pull the valve cover, lay a straight edge across the flats on the camshafts.
