time to finally buy that v8 i want

storage unit. for now im getting the engine ill try and figure out as much as possible before ever dropping it in. then i will attempt to... this isnt gonna be dropped in for a couple months i mean i got fulltime college n crap... learning subnetting and knowing the ins and outs of networking is currently more important... but its deffinately happening. no matter what every 3 months my college pays me 1850, so thatll help if im still doing this come summer.

explorer is basically a bolt in for you. best thing for doing a storage shed swap.

a current 5.0 or 6.2 ford would be worth doing.

no way i would choose a mod motor over an l/s setup for one of my vehicles.

a 5.3/6.0/6.2 gm powertrains complete are my first choice for used engine swapping in obd 2 compliant vehicles......

only untill the current just released fords mentioned above become cheap to get.

omg ya, but there must be some size diff between both 5.0's as the original 5.0 was really a 4.9 by cubic inches no? youd figure a 5.0 would be bigger then a 4.6 but i guess not lol. ive seen plenty of 350 crate engines 325hp for 1800 on ebay but... i need a truck engine, i do plan on now and then towing, nothing super heavy. gas seemed the easiest, but im also thinking of longevity of the engine, how long itll last, so diesel has entered my mind. i wouldnt wanna waste my time unless it was a 6bt or near, ive seen a 6bt on ebay 1725. a 4bt out of a tractor. i gotta figure something out so i can have it here and start study/learning and getting all necessary accessories. Thank god this community exists or id be screwed, the salvage yards around me are RIDICULOUS. omg so greedy. I asked about explorer center console, there like 50 bucks you pull, im like bye. they asked me what year i was lookin for, they only have what looks like around 98's.

first thing.....if you want a jdm engine BUY IT NOW! RIGHT NOW!!!! prices will only go up rapidly from here imo...

i been looking to them hard the past 10 months or so for my next to drive kids vehicle...there were some v6 diesels for ahwile, but all are gone and likely wont be any for a few years....the hilux type 2.8 engines are a good deal. and if i can price one right will get a total swap setup of that flavor.

if your serious about a diesel that has more then 4 cylinders the 6.2-6.5 work ok. compared to a 4bt much more desirable operationally, but lack on economy....cake to swap compared to a 6bt:icon_thumby:

for a gas chevy swap the 5.3 is about the most cost effective best i can tell. careful hunting will net a complete powertrain in 6.0 flavor for 2000 or so....much cheaper with engines over 100 k miles.

in your situation the explorer swap is the easiest and most cost effective, for all intents and purposes its a bolt in:dunno:

omg if i didnt squander my first 3500, well 2500 after stuff i HAD to take care of, id be pretty well set to do w.e i wanted... but 3400 is the cap... i was hoping to do front end suspension stuff but that can always wait i did just get a new set of 4 pro comp es9000's and it rides pretty nice just low in the front.

i hear some talking crap about the mitsu diesels but who knows maybe they are just idiots. I havent really studied that engine. 3100 doesnt seem bad for the way that engine looked and sounded.

what are the front suspension goals?

seriously....low rpm torque from a small block anything in a small truck doing small truck scale work????....thats just silly to think a solid v8 is going to be short with a reasonable axle tire configuration.

i will talk crap about a mitsu, FOR MY APPLICATION, but for a 2wd street truck or reg 4x4 they are IDEAL.

no crawling. i do like to drive trails, i wanted dixon bros LT, i just wanna eat bumps like their nothing. I am jealous of how an f150 rides because they are heavier so the hits seem softer. My ranger seems to let me know which bumps are hard hitting. I mean i got brand new pro comps and it is soft, but i test drove a rusted ass frame rotted 99 f150 and it drove softer, i was mad.

I was looking into dana44ttb as i do not want a solid axle but id rather my IFS, as i am happy with it, i would just need to compensate depending engine weight.

I believe it was Josh something that did a dana 44ttb then switched to SAS, i always meant to ask why as it looked great on his truck.
I do want wider, so first engine, then comes suspension, i know i want f150 axle for rear, 9.75 axle, will run 17x35 tires. but thats down the road. 31.5 is plenty of tire for me.

CI/Liters is the engine displacement, doesn't dictate the physical dimensions of the engine. Displacement is all about BorexStroke.

The thing (I THINK) that makes the 4.6 so much wider than a Windsor 5.0 (which is it's marketing name despite it being rounded to 4.9L), is the degree of the cylinder banks. I know the 5.0 is 90 degrees, but I don't remember the 4.6 mod's measurements.

Also, all 5.0s are 302 cubic inches, so every single one is rounded down to 4.9 liter displacement. The only difference is the older ones are Windsors and the new ones are in the Modular family, also called the 5.0 Coyote.

the ohc with up to 4 of them is why its a fat lil bastard.

Well I got multiple choices. Locally, a 5.0 99 explorer with 177k miles. I'm thinkin that or that mitsub diesel. Ugh mitsu would be nice but... It's AT 3100 now and ship from Cali out of my price range. Maybe your right on this exp. I just need to check how this explorer is running. I know our 4.0's can run along time mines 208k miles and strong cept tranny.
