so 3400 bucks again. this time im not gonna waste it all on nothing. lol. am i wrong with the specs on a 4.6 from crown vic being only 224hp 272tq? obviously being a v8 it will respond well to mods so im not too worried. just curious. i cant believe i let a 5.0 explorer with only 120k miles slip through my hands.... 1999 too... perfect for my ranger... didnt have the money then though... $1500
I plan on switching to 2wd only because i do not have the funds right now to put over 4800 into front suspension. hopefully i can find a used 5.5 camburg lift kit.
ohh my buddys friend has a chevy v8 he says its got alot of aftermarket into it for 1k bucks but ill have to check what he means by alot... he tends to smoke a bit of the "i forgot where i put the milk...".

Those are the spec in the normal 4.6 modular SOHC. The ones in police interceptors had about 250hp and 290 torque but thats basicly due to a diffeent intake setup thats similar to a Marauders.

And I'd eprsonally be wary of anyone who sells a V8 they say is solid with lots of aftermarket bits (they may have bought aftermarket turds to put on it) for a grand.

also depends though. 350s are a dime a dozen. and parts are cheap.

maybe he just wants to get what he has into it.

def. stick with the modular motor though. those things are sweet.

I do believe that the Modular has clearance issues, though. If you can manage to find one for a good price, try and find a DOHC one. muuuch more power.

lol funny thing is, its my wifes, brothers girlfriends truck she apparently is getting rid of. My wifes brother keeps trying to push these engines on me that i do not believe will fit. its out of a 1500 so i assume it might be like fitting a 5.4 from a ford. idk though. i found a 5.0 mercedes engine 1299 lol... if only i had experience. im going to college for computer networking not auto tech, this is just my passion, my truck lol.

ya, should i shoot for a mustang motor or all have same "engine" specs? didnt know if a mustang might be setup diff as far as timing, good to know on clearance issues, is that for the tranny fitting through firewall? im not against a body lift if i have to.

the 4.6 comes in 3 different basic configurations- 2 and 3 valve SOHC and a 4 valve DOHC, all putting out slightly different power figures dependant on the year and model vehicle it's used in.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Modular_engine Lays it out pretty well.

As far as clearance goes, the Modular 4.6 the problem doesnt come frmo the length of it, it comes from the height and width, and both the SOHC and DOHC configurations are much taller and wider than a 302 or 351W.

Nice link thanks... Wow... Double the width from
5.0-4.6... crazy. 18-30 inches... Much nicer fitting a 302. I seen one from a 92 e150 they are rated at 185hp for that year on that truck. Maybe I should just go that route and get a 5r70w I believe is tranny code. Need a running 5.0 98-00 exp I believe to match up best if I'm correct. Hmmm... Alright. Was gonna go 4.6 just cause newer engine figure better aftermarket but I think the 5.0 has just as much.

Yeah, the size issues are a big reason why the 5.0's are a common engine for a V8 swap. They made an assload of them, you can find parts for miiiles, and the size is easy to work with.

You forgot the PI and non PI 2v's too, '99 was the changeover in trucks, dunno when they did the cars.

Root around on here, GregR did a 4.6 in his IFS truck. It looks like it came that way. The '98+ trucks have a much more swap friendly engine bay than the 83-97's.

With a later model Ranger, best and cheapest swap has always been the matching year Explorer.

Same goes for any donar/receiver combo.

good to know bout engine bays... will check his thread. im at 208k miles so id like to pick a specific engine and buy it now and start piecing and finding out correct accessories ill need so by summer i can be up and running... maybe i can cut down on swap time by prepping engine before it even goes near my engine bay. as i live in an apartment i will have to probably find a way to keep it in my bed and work on it there till i can do the actual swap. my landlord is a... well thats another story. thnx for the info so far.

Yeah, apartment landlords are usually Nazis to car guys.

You could rent a medium size storage unit, and could work in it so long as you ddin't make a ton of noise, most thing you'd do with an engine can be done with handtools anyways. Or make a friend with extra garage/shop space. lol

Ya i mean I got people down the street owe me a favor for his son taking a screw driver and hammer to my fuel filter cause i couldnt get it off with CORRECT tools, and kid said he does them all day talking all bad im like ok, thinkin this kids retarded and he was. they got the engine hoist id use, thatd be the main thing. and landlord, nothing against any race but she is a dirty... Spanish lady... We were told after living here for 2 yrs we didnt have a parking spot. so i parked and took up the whole driveway until she just shut her mouth. now the people upstairs are spanish and allowed, im sorry... 3 vehicles. one is parked in driveway. POS toyota suv with flat tires unregistered. its funny, if i was spanish... im so not racist its this city, its 90% spanish. i got attacked by a guy with crow bar if your search my threads its called "road rage" lol. it was funny.
