- My credo
- In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Function blocks are a vital part of more recent PLC programming. They are basically subroutines that are easy to pull into the program to speed up programming and standardize common functions. When you look inside the function Block, it is composed of ladder logic or sometimes statement list programming code.I was a project engineer and my former employer was heavily invested in Emerson, so I was able to work with DeltaV a fair amount. That's not really PLC and programming was done with function blocks rather than the ladder logic type. I enjoyed working with it. Where I work now they use Rockwell and that looks more like ladder logic and completely foreign to me. I've not messed with it at all though.
I've been doing this since the early 90's before Windows and fancy "drag and drop the symbol" programming.
