TIL: Today I Learned...

I was a project engineer and my former employer was heavily invested in Emerson, so I was able to work with DeltaV a fair amount. That's not really PLC and programming was done with function blocks rather than the ladder logic type. I enjoyed working with it. Where I work now they use Rockwell and that looks more like ladder logic and completely foreign to me. I've not messed with it at all though.
Function blocks are a vital part of more recent PLC programming. They are basically subroutines that are easy to pull into the program to speed up programming and standardize common functions. When you look inside the function Block, it is composed of ladder logic or sometimes statement list programming code.

I've been doing this since the early 90's before Windows and fancy "drag and drop the symbol" programming.

For you knee guys, I am entering week 6 of a total knee replacement and believe me the recovery period is no picnic. I can walk around OK, kneeling is still a no no. I've finally stopped the oxy for pain but sometimes I wish I hadn't. There's just no way I can do any weight bearing physical work or work on cars. Hopefully in 4 months I'll get used to the feeling that there's an alien living in my knee and life will be better. And yes it's usually a 1-day outpatient surgery and they have you walking on it before they kick you to the curb. Most orthos don't do partial replacements anymore.

Maybe post some type of "warning" next time. Pics like this give me the heebeejeebees. I (and possibly others as well) am very empathetic to this type of stuff.

I had both knees replaced at the same time March 2022. So a little over a year ago. I'm back at work. I'm definitely better than I was before the surgery but nowhere near where I was 20 years ago. I was in hospital for 4 days. At a friend's for 3 weeks. Able to live in my rented basement suite by myself after. 6 months I went back to work fulltime. I shouldn't have... I'm down to 1/2 time right now while I build up my muscles and endurance.

Sorry, I'll take the pic down. I was just trying to imply that for those needing a TKR in the future they should plan on a 4-6 month recovery.

No problem, It might be "just me" so I wouldn't take it down If you don't want to. It's probably not too graphic for rmost.
Just a little "heads up" is all.
No harm, No foul.

TIL...

my damn brake drums are on the move finally!

don't worry about knee pictures, we're a rough 'n tough bunch here.

on a related note, anybody want to see pics of my prostrate surgery from 2 years ago? :stop:

Last night I did a to do list on the Road Ranger and it’s trailer for the Carlisle Truck Nationals. TIL that I need to be much more careful about committing to projects that are half done to a bunch of people I’ve never met…

I jumped out and it felt like my knee bent backwards. It seems to be ok now (still hurts like a bitch) but ill live.

I fully expect at some point to end up having both ball joints replaced

I figured you would be more kingpin vintage...

Really? i thought standard procedure was basically cutting out the old one and hammering in a new one
Oh, they basically do that, but they computer image your natural knee and make one to match, then with the computer assist they take as little out as possible and slide the new one in, stick you up and you do some therapy and they send you walking to the car. Boom, done, one day.
