So, after sticking a log through my radial TSL I am tire shopping.

I know Thornbirds are not well regarded, and I do think that attitude is reasonably well founded. Then DO NOT have enough forward biting edges. But I do love the massive side lugs. And, I have a tire groover.

So, I'm considering some Thornturds, and then groving the crap out of them. Has anybody done this? or seen this done? Thoughts?

I've always wondered if they would be any good if someone grooved the hell out of them. So I say try it and let us know haha.

I think a set of LTBs would be cheaper (33x13.5 or 34x10.50)...

i grooved some for a budie years back it helped them alot, but he liked the swomper SX's grooved way better, i had a pair of SX's and the side bitters are way better then thorn birds and way lighter, the side wall grip on the SX's are sick, sx is the tuffest swoper,

in all honesty I think my tire choice is between 35 x 15.5 SX's or 35" LTB's. I want 35" rubber, and I want wide(r). I think I will be going with the SX's fie to extra grooving work. My life is busy enough.

Get the SX's, that sidewall is bullet proof!! i love mine, mine are 36x12.50's

What do you have now?

I have a 33" thornbird with alot of tread left that you could have for 10 bucks plus shipping. Shipping would probably be 40 bucks.

Also, where did you get your tire groover and how much was it?

I have 32 x 10.5 TSL radials right now. website says my OD is 32.1" I have only run these for 1.5 summers, and only on my 4x4, not my DD. They are in good shape.

depending on what width your 33" thornbird is it may be very close. That might be a good idea!! any Idea what shipping to Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada might be?

the main reason to stay away from a thorny turd is that boggers and sx's are in the same price range,i'de never consider them unless it was a SMOKIN deal.i do hear the sx is a very stiff carcass and you need to run single digit pressures for it to conform.good riddance to the tsl radial's they aren't a great tire either .

35 boggers would be sweet, but i woulden't want to drive them on the highway.for the (peat?)bogs around you though...

I want wide, because of the peat bogs, yes.

I have considered sx's on the front and boggers on the back. could be pretty cool!

my TSL radials have done me well, except for getting raped by that small ded tree. They conform very well even at 30 psi.

I have also considered Pitbull Rockers, but the dealer is 8 hours away from me.

seems peat would be better with a min of 38 in a wide tire?
i am just guessing your peat is way worse then the crap we have in michigan.

35 enough to play in peat? is it deep and long sections or just short holes here and there? of course if most running your play area run 33-5 tires i am sure its good at 35. just the bogs here i cant get around in well just crossing short sections with 35's, i often need to winch some. that is why i try to run boggers rear and fatty tsl fronts whenever possible. it covers alot or range for me. theres some sections or line i have not tried cause of the 1000 foot bog in the middle of it. i never seen anything drive it but have seen evidence of attempts. there one area i can not drive through with 4x4 and my at's that i can cross in 2wd locked and boggers on a good roll.

tire selection can be a real pia sometimes.

one thing, sx's are definatly a stout tire. and a good fallback imo if you cant make up your mind on a setup.

38" tire + D35 + 5.0L + my foot = broken

we have both deep (bottomless) long sections, and short holes. I ride both. I want wide for the floatation in that stuff.

You run TSL's up front and Boggers on the back bobbywalter? where can I see some pics of your truck?

This is how deep it was in my tire (almost out the other side!)

This is how you air down in 7 sec.

Then, to top things off, my friend met a rock that scrubbed his valve stem off/out, while in a hole.

Funfun

I am pretty sure that it is 33 12.50 15.

I am just amazed at how a piece of wood owned your tire. I mean tires a fawking tough! I dont see how.

I have seen cornstalk stumps take out tractor tires, sometimes they just like to surprise you. :scare:
