This 2.3 has got me stumped.

Got quite a saga goin on there....

But looks like ur makin progress. Have you ran it enuf to see how much oil ur losing?...(burning)...i just disassembled a friends 2L he had some REAL blow-by issues...serious Oil loss....(2 broken rings..) on separate holes...I hope u don't have any of those issues..but you may benefit from seriously checking the compression issues after driving it for a while...if it will settle down enuf to drive it around some...

John,

I think I finally got all the leaks fixed; the two front seals, the front and rear pan seals, the dipstick tube wasn't all the way into the block and its' brace wasn't attached to the lower intake, the auto's dipstick tube wasn't attached to the block either. The powere steering unit still leaks but that's not important right now.

Now we are letting it go through heat cycles. Oreily's sold me the wrong PCV valve and I still need to get a new breather cap. Oh, and we still have the EGR control solenoid disconnected because it's stuck open.

Well you've done a lot work..

To take care fot THOSE leaks...Let's hope the rings hold...and there are no other issues with pistons. I disassembled five of these 2.3's in the last month finally..I had been accumulating them in my little shop over time and found that out of 6 of them..only two still had a usable full set of pistons for one reason or another...but of course I acquired them w/o knowing any history...but some WERE run hard obviously..maybe revved cold..ran hard..and put away "wet" as they say...if it will fire on all 4 reasonably...It may work for you till you decide to "go inside"...if you ever need to.. unfortunately and also fortunately it is managed by a computer so you have to deal with all of the effects of the sensors..a good thing in most cases..not so good if the motor is tired maybe...

small canister

just curios if anyone ever found out what this is? if u didnt say fuel, i would say its a pcv valve. if it is on the hp fuel line why no clamps...if it is trully cut into the fuel line maybe someone was thinking it would work as some kind of check valve. but my gut says its pcv. on my 94 it took me about a month to find mine behind the drivers side of engine between 2 hoses and not in the valve cover like everyother of the 60plus cars ive owned
