Morning all.

I'm thinking of doing a 2" body lift on my ranger (after I get the x-fer, trans, & engine back together)

Anyone have pros or cons on a body lift ? found any problems ??

I did a 2" bodylift on my choptop a couple years ago. I never really cared much for body lifts, but I needed to do new body mount bushings and at the time I found a 2" body lift on sale and it seemed like a better idea than trying to buy the long bolts that I'd need. Since I was using poly body mount bushings, I did pick up some large flat washers to put between the body lift blocks and the poly bushings because I had heard of the body lift pucks sinking into the poly bushings a little (IIRC the factory rubber bushings have a metal plate on top of them).

Biggest pain to the whole thing was getting the stock body mount bushings out - I had to cut most of them out because the bolts and mounts were so badly rusted. Had to patch a couple of the frame mounts too (just welded a plate of steel to the frame mount).

The 2" worked out pretty well, I only really had to relocate the e-brake bracket on the frame behind the front wheel, it had to be moved up on the frame. And I had to lose my fan shroud (you could trim it) on the radiator.

I did find that it made a BIG difference in accessing things to work on - things that before you would be fighting and contorting to try to reach suddenly were easier to get to because you could reach in from another direction now.

Ah... That last part "does it" for me (9-1/2 fingers).

Thanks for the reply

No problem, that's what we're here for!

I've had my choptop up on jackstands for the past week or so but finally got around to ripping out the front axle for an upgrade. Between the body lift and the suspension lift I did on it, (plus the fact that the D-28 front axle that was in it was an upgrade I did for the 2wd front suspension it had originally), it didn't take long at all to pull things apart. Even had room to work on the upper shock bolt (usually that plastic inner fender is waaayyy too close).

I just finished a 3 inch body lift on my ranger. I replaced the body mounts at the same time cause they were toast. I had to cut a few of the old mounts out, sawzall works great for that. The hardest part i found was realigning the doors so that they would close proper, a few large washer placed in the right locations worked great.

If you are thinking about doing a body lift I'd do it BEFORE putting the trans back in. Makes it easier to install the tranny.
