thinking about removing the muffler

When I had my little B2200, I ran a Thrush glasspack and stock piping otherwise. It wasn't loud at all. Just a little throaty on acceleration. I think it all depends on the shape of the piping and the condition of the cat. The 4.3 S10 we have now had a flowmaster 40 single in/dual out with the pipes coming out under the bumper, and I thought it sounded like complete ass. I replaced it with an oem style muffler and pipes and am much happier. All depends on your taste. I would never run a 4 cyl with no muffler at all. Like everyone else said, it will just be shitty sounding noise.

haha ok thx guys. i dont want my truck to sound like a ricer. so now im tossin around the idea of a 20 dollar muffler, a short glasspack, or maybe even change out both the muffler and resonator for flowmasters (when i get the money.) oh and BTW its a southern california truck so theres no rust and the pipes arnt rotting.

oh and i had a 4.0 with no muffler and it sounded pretty good... i also had a '74 f250 with a 360 bored .040 over with just headers and lets just say whatever i do to this truck wont piss them off. lol

4.0 OHV's sound like weed-whackers with no muffler.... :icon_confused:

A glasspack with cats isnt' bad.

My take is on four cylinders they are better seen and not heard... unless they have a turbo at which point all I wanna hear is the turbo.

yea, i guess. when i get money i wanna go for the short ram (or whatever its called) k&n air intake. you will definatly hear me comin even if i leave it with a stock muffler... i just upgraded my whole sound system.

i don't believe you... mine doesn't have a muffler. :thefinger:

the 2.9 is louder than the 4.0.... :icon_confused: but idk about the 2.3

i like the way mine sounds. its not that loud inside my cab... i have catback w/ no muffler (or cats, i know.. i know.. its illegal, i'm not denying it) and have 3.5 inch slash tips out the rear. i like it.

the video is hard to hear, but will give you some insight maybe..

its a little deeper than in the video tho.

but all this is moot points b/c you don't have the 4.0 :thefinger:

i decided on the flowtech raptor turbo muffler and its perfect. throaty and no ricer and no drone at highway speeds. best 25 bux ive ever spent

Don't waste your money, rangers already come with a cold air intake from the factory

Cone filters also make a world of difference sound-wise too. Makes a deep throaty sound when u do get going a little. My Grand Am with the v6 has stock exhaust and i threw on a cone filter and it sounds pretty sweet. Stock exhaust so its quiet idling and cruising, but when i do step on it it sounds incredible. Quiet, but loud when i want it to be. One of the reasons i never did up the exhaust.

i dont like the way its setup, i dont like the air mufflers and i like the cone airfilters and metal intake tube

you can remove the air mufflers too. Mine also has i cone muffler in it's original housing, drawing air from the fenderwell. I replaced the air muffler with 3in exhaust pipe and it helped alot.

I don't know ehat the newer rangers' intakes look like though haha so idk
