well my freeze plug finally rusted thru... the one behind the tranny... i dont have the money or time to get it fixed.. i heard that you can try to use a sealant and put in the radiator and it might seal up the leak? idk what else to do besides sell it for a loss :pissedoff:

what makes me mad is i just replaced the radiator, alternator, battery, plugs/wires... i've had so much trouble with this truck i'm getting sick of it!

in the 4 months i had it, broke both belts, TPS went out on me, radiator got a crack in it, now this.. i know its a 20year old truck but damn

I don't recommend to use his kind of stuff if you want to keep your truck some year again. because this stuff will plug the leak right(if the leak is not too big). but this stuff will accumulate evrywhere in the engine. This can reduce the efficacity of heater core. This stuff is just good if you only want to keep the truck a couple of month. It's just my point of view

A freeze plug is probably cheaper than the sealant, I'd just change it and be done with it.

yea, but the plug that i bad is behind the transmission, so in order to change the plug you have to remove the transmission.. which is about 900 labor... or a lot of time doing it myself

It could be done in a saturday. Removing the trans on a 2.9 isn't that bad. I've done it a couple times myself. Now a 4.0 with air is another story.

i'm just weary about doing it... all them rusty bolts under there i'll probally break a bumch of bolts, and who knows what i might disrupt... idk seems like more hassle than its worth

Remove all and put a V8 :) under the hood, then you will have real cool ride

are you sure its not on the back of your head? if it is take that head off. our if you can get to it take the rusted plug out and putt a rubber plug in, then when it worms up over there put a real plug in, the ruber one will last awhile used one in my old truck all winter long then changed it in the summer time. good luck man...

You could do it easy in a weekend with a helper.

The radiator and the plug might have been caused by the same problem. Not enough antifreeze in the cooling system and it froze up in the cold.

Would explain both problems, if that's the case it's not the trucks fault.

Pulling a tranny in a 4WD, should not take more than 6 hours.

900 to take trans out? by what i charge, id do it 4 or 5 times for that

You'll need help, someone has to give you a hand lifting the transmission. My step dad and I did a tranny swap and a clutch replacement in a day, and he was working on bigger stuff part of the time. Drop the cross member, then it's a matter of getting to the bolts. Some of them are easier to get from top of engine compartment, some from the bottom.

88Ranger, where are you located, if youre anywhere near me, id be more than willing to lend a hand. Its a little easier for me when i have the luxury of not having to do it on the ground, nor yank a trans out by manual lifting. Let me Know.

I bought a new light duty trans jack on Ebay for $80.00 delivered; also available thru Harbor Freight and elsewhere. I pulled the trans by myself thanks to having the trans jack, would have needed help otherwise.

well i might be getting it done.. i'm getting another estimate and hopefully my gfs uncle can do it cheaper
