I was chatting with our chief of police on an unrelated matter and holiday traffic came up. Maybe better stated, holiday stress. Apparently our boys and girls here in blue are already dealing with it all.
Then I had to go show a property about 6-7 miles from my home/office. I saw two accidents and got stuck behind a third. Nothing too serious, unless you’re the one who has to fix it all, huh?
I thought I’d share a thought. No matter how good you are, how well you drive, your best intensions, how important “that thing” is, these are stressful times, and that’s always exaggerated around the holidays. Everyone is in a rush, everyone is less tolerant, everyone thinks their thing is most important.
We all know the most important thing is safety and holiday spirit, family and friends. They say it’s about the journey. Can all y’all do me a favor? Think about the journey. Take an extra minute. Even if you’re right, let the wrong guy go first, even if he cuts you off. Wave a holiday smile (with all your fingers). Consider how much more stressed the other guy might be. The road is always full of run of the mill jerks. Around the holidays, the professional jerks come out.
Drive like your life depends on it. Like your family’s life depends on it. Who knows, you might even save a jerk and he’ll never know it. But He will know. Arrive late and safe and you’ll have a holiday story. Rush and wreck and you’ll BE the holiday story.
It’s a great group @Jim Oaks started here. Be patient, be prepared, be safe, and be with those you love, celebrating. And share these thoughts.
Remember those who serve. Pray for them and all the rest. Did I mention He will know?
(But get their license number in case you see them after the first of the year.)
Happy Turkey, Happy Holidays! Hope it helps always…
(and stay out of my way)
