the pontiac vibe was recalled with toyota?!

Yea, the vibes had the same powertrain as a Toyota corrolla since it came out

Built by Toyota, too, as I understand it.

Partnership is older than that model, though...Geo/Chevy Prism = Toyota Corolla, for one. I'm thinking there was another, but I can't remember for sure.

That's why the Vibe was GM's highest rated car for so long.

GM is in bed with anyone that can help them. Isuzu was a big one before, not sure about now. I think they have a project with Mitsubishi I saw on the quarterly?

The Pontiac Vibe and Toyota Matrix are basically the same vehicle Just like Mazda did with the B series and the Ranger.

The recall was with the accelerator They have an issue with them sticking at WOT. It was first thought that the floor mats were the cause but clearly it was some thing else.

Floor mats were separate issue. I worked there when that started.

For those of you too lazy to click here's important bits.

New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. is an automobile manufacturing plant in Fremont, California. The factory was originally a General Motors plant opened in 1962 and shut down in 1982.[1] GM and Toyota reopened the factory as a joint venture in 1984 to manufacture vehicles to be sold under both brands.[1] GM pulled out of the venture in June 2009. Toyota indicated it plans to pull out by March 2010.

When it reopened for production in 1984, it was the first automotive joint venture plant in the United States. GM saw this joint venture as an opportunity to learn about the ideas of lean manufacturing from the Japanese company, while Toyota gained its first manufacturing base in North America and a chance to implement its production system in an American labor environment. Many business textbooks mention NUMMI when they discuss joint ventures.

Lol, my wife's car is a 2000 Daewoo Leganza I bought for $700 with a bad timing belt and valves. $500 in parts later it's been a good car. When I tore it down I noticed the block had a big 2" x 2" GM emblem on it, yet the local GM dealer can't cross a thing for the engine despite all of the parts that have part numbers on them are all GM part numbers. GM only did the engines though, the car is Korean built and the tranny is built by ZF.

I own a 2006 vibe. it is a good car. the vibe was built at the Nummi plant in California. the Toyota Matrix is/was built in Canada. they are virtually the same car. It was one of the best car gm/ pontiac built so they decided to stop building it...lol the last year is 2010. My brother in law has a 96 prizm with 250k on it. it has the original clutch he has barely done anything to it.
