Here's my take on it and I'm as sick as everyone else talking about a ghost ( The Un-Ranger). The reason the Global truck is a uni-body is the rest of the planet wants uni-bodies. Since this version is a uni-body Ford knows it won't sell here no matter the crash rating, the good mileage figures etc.... (same argument you get talking SUV's VS Crossovers.
I really think Ford has something in the works with a full frame small truck. Not the F-100. Probably closer to a Tacoma or Frontier. The powertrains offered will be ecoboost though we can hope for a diesel.
I think they don't want to jump the gun and give us a truck that won't sell. Ford wants home runs not strike outs. I believe there will be a Ranger replacement (whatever they'll end up calling it) by 2015. I think Ford wants to take a wait and see on how the Colorado pans out.
Ford will make another small truck. They aren't in a hurry and want to do it right once.
Oh, the reason that Ranger is a 7/8ths F150? They don't sell the F150 overseas.
