Still confused on the "NEW" Ranger news. I heard here that it was not to be anymore. however, just read this:
The Ranger may be the most popular vehicle shutting down this year; it outsold Ford's Taurus, Mustang and Fiesta in September, and is on track to rack up 60,000 buyers this year. Ford has a brand-new Ranger it's launching around the world except in the United States. — The ancient U.S. Ranger would need a brace of expensive updates to stay in production, but the hole left by its departure is large enough to convince GM to update its line of compact pickups next year.
" Ford has a brand-new Ranger it's launching around the world except in the United States. — so we will have a new Ranger where I live [Canada] ?? Any pics??

Looks like a sleeked-up (or down) version of the Sport-Trac.

The Ranger was on the way out 3 years ago. It has been made overseas for a long time and the 4 door Ranger was never given to the USA. Ford will continue it that way. No more for the USA.

The global Ranger will be coming to the US and Canada now.

I was told that by my shop foreman, and he has to be just as up to date on product knowledge as the sales staff, so I assume that's true.

have a few friends in ford around here. (i work for gm as sales) ford has no news on the global ranger coming to north america. It doesnt pass the standards set out here. california emission laws are tough and they just uped the crash ratings, to make it much harder to get a 5 star crash test rating. not sure if you guys heard, but the ford escape went from the 2010 5 star rating, to with the new system and 3 star for 2011. same truck.

From everything we have heard, thats why. if ford decides to bring out something id love it, but i wont be buying ford if they think us ranger people are going to switch to that thing. i buy ford for a frame a cab and a dependable truck, not because my daddy's daddy had one and it was the best 50's ford ever made. Unibody means my money goes elsewhere.

adsm, not sure about your foreman... he would either have to talk to a ford executive (they dont spill info) or read it in the news (no new news on it). sounds like a lota speculation. look in your system for service specs on the 2012 and 2013 models available. i can get pricing on future models yet to be released. some good stuff coming BTW ;)

I don't see a market for the new ranger here in the U.S. It's nearly the same size as the f-150's, like 90% it's size.

My brother-in-law has been at the assembly plant in Ohio for almost 30 years now. He told me several times that it is over for the Ranger..no more Ranger.

http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2011/10/global-2012-ford-ranger-scores-highest-in-euro-crash-tests.html

The news for small-pickup fans keeps getting better. Autoblog has posted a video of the global 2012 Ford Ranger's most recent crash tests conducted by Euro NCAP, Europe's vehicle safety agency. The new Ranger not only earned the highest scores of any pickup truck, but it also received the highest ratings Euro NCAP has ever awarded for passenger protection.

Ford will equip European Rangers with standard side curtain airbags, side thorax airbags and knee airbags in addition to the front airbags.

The safety scores are a big win for Ford. The 2011 Ranger took a big hit in the U.S. when subjected to revised testing by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Both Ranger models (regular cab and Super Cab) earned two-star overall ratings.

Domestic Ford Ranger production will likley stop next month with no scheduled replacement.

2 stars in the US is the HIGHEST Europe's testing has ever seen?!?!? Or am i reading that wrong?

Here is how I read it. The NEW Ranger rated the high figure. They just don't tell you what that figure is.
It is the OLD Ranger [2011] that only scored 2 stars

Oh ok. I overlooked the different model years.

My question now is... If the new Ranger scored the highest that NCAP has ever awarded, how is that too low for the states?

One of the big reasons everyone says the new Ranger isnt here is because it wont pass our safety. (its already been brought up in this thread.)

My question as well...................

I dunno, I was told that we'd have it by 2013.

I'd love to finally hear some for sure news bout the whole deal instead of the back and forth from the past few years. I love the models here but I also love the looks of the current global rangers. Plus I would love to see the Ranger offered with a diesel here as it is in the global models

I'd love to see the new Ranger here. If it does happen, that wont!
