That tesla "truck" is crazy FUGLY!

30 years old? The first Lightning's were 93 - 96. They were 351 Windsor making 240 hp. Herein referred to as Generation I. Then 99 - 04, with blown 5.4, making 360 and 380 hp. Herein referred to as Generation II. All us Lightning owners at LightningRodder and National Lightning Owners Club, are laughing our asses off at this FUGLY thing Ford is calling a Lightning.

28 years old is close enough to 30, and considering a 93 lightning was likely available in 92 that would make it 29 years.

And fugly? Have you SEEN the 97-03 f150? The only thing worse looking than those abominations is a Citroën 2cv.

This was the most "normal" looking electric truck before the F-150 dropped.

Get rid of the dorky unibrow headlight (that probably reduces range by a fourth anyway), put a grille in it than can breathe and change the wheels/tires and the Lightning looks like a normal truck.

It doesn't need to which is why it is mostly filled in compared to a normal F-150. But if you put a "normal" more open grille in it it would look very much like a normal F-150.

Kinda like the dorky wheels and skinny street tires, its part of the electric thing but differentiates it from a gas truck.

But at some point it can't be made to look like a gas truck because doing so is impractical. It's new and different. Keeping it looking as close to the gas engine counterpart as possible is only to ease the anxiety of people who are afraid of new things.

Im not saying the cyber truck is not idiotic looking. But I didn't expect this thing was gonna be a spot on f150 replica either. Fake grills, bigger tires, stuff like that serves no purpose on an electric truck except like I said, anxiety relief lol. You could put exhaust pipes on it hooked to little speakers that make vroom vroom noises...

I was giving it brownie points because the differences in appearance between it and a gas truck were minor.

Change the grille, tires and wheels and the unibrow headlights, thats it. Compared to a cyber truck or Rivian that is very minor. It looks like a upcycled 2004 F-150 the same as a gas truck.

I actually don't think the Rivian looks too bad. It's different but not flat out ugly like the cyber truck. I mean the cyber truck literally looks like the designers were still in the stage of mocking it up with cardboard when Elon Musk walked in and said "brilliant!"

Dirtman is right though. The Lightning is made to look like a normal F150 so it doesn't freak people out. An electric truck doesn't need an empty engine compartment. Eventually electric vehicles should be designed around what they are, what they can do, and the space of the vehicle should make sense.

The Lightning was a performance vehicle. That debut didn't market this truck as a performance vehicle. Instead it marketed the Lightning as Fords one and only electric truck.

The best part about it is, it still looks like a truck; the worst part about it is, it still looks like a truck... it’s not aerodynamic at all. You’re still trying to push a brick down the road, that will kill the battery life.

Ford may not be marketing it as a performance vehicle, but those HP and torque numbers make me think it is.
