The heavy fiberglass hood on 3rd generation Rangers


Why use springs at all. A metal rod works fine...

When I bought my 97 F150 a few months ago, the struts were shot. I cut a wooden stick to fit. I’ve replaced the struts but the stick is still under the back seat. That’s technology you can’t beat.

I was just thinking about that last night when I read this thread, and the posts about the hood struts vs springs. All three of my Rangers had a light, simple swing hinge, and a prop rod to hold the hood up. Works like a champ.
