The gun thread...

oh, my bad......i was going to count them, but i thought 76 had a nice ring to it.

No worries man. I had a shitty day at work and wanted to shoot some sh...........stuff. Basically I walked in the door from work, grabbed my S&W, unloaded it since it ALWAYS hollow points in it and ready to rock and roll, grabbed my carry case for it out of the closest, looked at my gf and simply said I am going to the range because I had a shytty day at wok and simply turned around and walked out of the house. There was no explanation of shyt. Sometimes a simple and direction method is the best.

On Saturday, Christmas Eve, I am going to site in my 30.06 w/ my dad. I am going to site it in at about 400 yards. I have plans to go down to NM in Oct. for a little elk hunting. Come to find out my father sold his Remington 700, his prize rifle, to pay for property taxes. He loved that gun. I think for his birthday that is what I am going to get him.

i had to sell a few guns to pay bills back when i was unemployed, still pisses me off to this day. one of them was my first rifle i ever bought, also a rem 700. i should've just not paid them damnit.....or gone on unemployment.

I am hoping to never get to that point.

So I took my new NP29, the Norinco 1911 in 9mm, out to the range for the first time today.
Wasn't shooting for accuracy or anything just seeing how it works.
My buddy and I put 150rds of 115gr FMJ through it, not one hiccup. Very impressed for the $350 I spent on it.

The 5.45 is interesting but short of ordering off of the internet I couldn't find any ammo for it in stock locally.

Do you have a link to Bud's? I found a Buds Gun Shop but they didn't have any Arsonal's listed.

Ordering ammo online is not as bad as you think. Usually that is where you can find the best deals and its on your doorstep in a matter of days.

Here is the link for Bud's Arsenals...It looks like their prices have gone up a little since I ordered mine.

I like to at least have the option to buy locally if I have to. Even here in po-dunk-ville I can get 7.62x39 by driving two miles. And it is a caliber that I could hunt with it if I wanted to.

I also don't like corrosive ammo which really limits surplus/cheap Russian ammo, I get enough regular cleanings with my black powder guns.

An AK would be fun, but I don't know if they would be $800+ fun... Thanks for the link though. :icon_thumby:

Maybe, consider a VZ58? All the rage here in Canada.

That be an interesting weapon.

I have kinda moved on to an SKS. A freakishly awesome SKS is about the same price as a less than perfect AK... and they are more accurate to boot.

those things look like a SKS made sex with an AK

lol, have a look at a vz52/57, another wild child.

SKS ergonomics(?) are less then stellar compared to a vz58 I found.
Vz58 has a simplified gas piston system vs the sks
As well, the trigger parts are all simple, where the SKS has a trigger group I wouldn't ever try taking apart. Not that you ever really need to.
I find the vz58 much easier to field strip.
Both has the bolt hold open on last round.
Both are milled receivers.

SKS has better looks in my opinion. Can be found with nicer wood. Most vz58s up here has beaver puke for wood.

AKs require a special license up here. Basically they are prohibited(which some have licenses for)
So I can't compare either rifle to the AK.

there's a guy somewhere that'll do match jobs on sks triggers. it was $50 or so a few years ago when i heard about it. i had found it at one time, but i dont remember where it was.

According to CZ's website it was "wood impregnated plastic" I have never heard of that before.

It also says they are discontinued.

I am still on the SKS because it is roughly a fourth to a third the price, has more parts available and shoots just about as accurate if not more (depending on condition of course) Takedown is no AK but doesn't look that bad on youtube... (famous last words)
