The "Goldwing" Build Thread

Update: 2/18/2013

Been down with a Viral Infection for a while but finally started to feel better today and did some stuff to the truck. I was mainly just bored and need out side so i found a rattle can and painted body line down black:

Then i actually felt like doing something so i FINALLY got around to fabing up some mounts for what will soon be a bumper :icon_welder: haha all i have right now is the main chunk. Just a starting pallet to build off of haha:

I saw an ad for your truck on CL and became sad because this is a badass Ranger

But you should come to our meet at Slaughterhouse on the 10th :icon_thumby:

Selling it? boo

If you keep it, I'd suggest doing something else for your tow hooks on the front. Can't see whether or not they're still where you put them originally or not, but if they are, you're going to end up twisting your frame. I did something similar on mine and it's pretty tweaked after a few years of wheeling. Even welding a piece of square tubing across inside the frame rails will help a lot.

Anyway, looks good, much better than I would have been able to do at your age.

First Thank you so much for the complements! haha but its not really for sale... more for trade for a powerstroke or cummins. and actually if you look back in the thread to the pic of me REALLY stuck i hooked the winch to one of those hooks and ripped the bolts THROUGH the frame hahaha so i wouldnt recommend that mount spot AT ALL granted it held untill a 12,000lb winch bunt out and the other still held when my buds 600+ hp cummins ripped my ass out haha

no real updates so far... got a new windshield and wipers and welded on some 18,900lbs D-rings to the front bumper my bumper will come off before those bastards do haha but now the rear axle is giving me fits and randomly locking up after the truck sits on my hill over night but only sometimes so im gunna tear into that and hopefully do the 64" swap at the same time and then build the front axle. i keep wasting my money on stupid little shit haha maybe ill do some onboard air when my beds off too... who knows my pockets arent very deep at all right now haha

Here are my ideas in order of necessity:

- Fixing rear end/ spring swap (Springs,Hardware, Maybe Belltech 6400's worried ill get too much lift and wont match the front with them...): $150 w/ shackles... $90 without.

- Front end build (5-760x, drivers side arm, lincoln locker, c-clip eliminator): $250+

- Bumper (Tube, wrap around, slide plate): $150+ may need different springs up there too after all that weight

- On board air (12v 100+ psi compressor, tank, lines): $100

- I think my tranny is on her last legs... maybe a 4cyl/4.0 mutt 5 speed like Plumcrazy's build??? huh? that way ill have 4.10's and can roll my 33's better haha

- FW Dana 44 front and rear or a FW 8.8 rear, 100% leaf sprung, 36's, 5.13's, locked front, maybe a rear spool thats all WAY down the road though

Are the rear brakes locking up after you use them? Could be a few things gear oil/brake fluid on the shoes causes them to grab. If they're out of adjustment the shoe will cock funny and grab also if some if the hardware (springs) that hold them to tbe backing plate re broken theyll cock and grab as well . Or sometimes the stock proportioning valve goes for a dump and causes them to be over sensitive. My f350 does the same

it could very well be that... but it like breaks loose it doesnt ease loose you know what i mean. Its like and all of a sudden BAM! and then you can move freely so idk about it being brakes? its only done it twice and both on cold days. so maybe i got water in there like my front diff? but then again one of the times it did it the truck had only sat for about 2 hours in 30 degree weather so i wouldnt think the oil would cool down fast enough for water to freeze that fast?

But it locks up when you hit the pedal and stays locked till it lets go? Or is it locking up on its own randomly?

Mine will do it if its wet or snowy

no its just randomly. like ill park my truck set the parking brake and then the next morning try and leave release the brake put it in first and its locked up. it takes about half the power of the truck to break it free again. and you can hear and feel it inside the cab and it seems like i can almost feel the drive shaft wanting to twist.

That is almost certainly a parking brake issue. Something is causing it to not release. Pull the drums off and check all self adjusting hardware, and check the parking brake cables too. Even water that gets in there and freezes will cause this, I had the same issue with my F150 in the winter after driving through puddles.

Ok thats where ill start looking if i keep it... may be trading her for a 1997 7.3 powerstroke sometime this week with 240,xxx miles 4 door short box only needs a clutch...

I hate you..... do you realize how difficult it is to find a OBS crew cab stick 6ft box powerstroke? Ive been looking for a year and a half. Its 4x4 im assuming? Swap in a dana 60 and thats a dream truck of mine
