The "Goldwing" Build Thread

priced it all out and ill be right around the 1200 dollar mark to complete the swap, thats including lifting/ gearing the rear and getting 35's so itll be a little while but its achievable and thats all ruff estimates, ill be keeping my eyes peeled for deals.

i can get the d30 in, geared, locked, lifted and leafed for about 600 because ill be buying gears, carrier, lockright, rebuild kit, leafs and shckles all brand new unless i can find some deals haha

Update: 8/18/2013

well bad news and good news... i was forced to buy a new set of tires sooner than i thought i would so as of now the d30 swap is no longer in budget. and i went wheelin today and had to limp back home... stuck in 4 low :annoyed:

after questioning the worst i started with the easiest and checked fuses, connections, and ran the 4x4 module self diagnostics system. all came back fine. so i turned my attention to the shitty electric shift motor then i noticed i couldnt hear the motor engage when i pressed the button. Then i remembered i had collected a few items for my electric 4x4 system because i knew id have troubles with it.

slapped in a new button and WALLA!! :headbang:

also i found my front end leak! its where the passenger side shaft goes into the 3rd member. that seal right there is shot and not im getting wabble out of the shaft. (which explains why ive grenaded 2 hubs on that side :annoyed: ) but now my plan is to pull out the front end a rebuild it while taking a note from rangebee v2.0 and lincoln lock it up and weld the caps. :icon_welder: (which was the original plan haha :icon_thumby: ) then ill think about going a little higher... i took of my front sway bar completely off but i still cant really get my front end to flex. :icon_confused:

any ideas for some more flex?? im not out of room i mean nothing is maxed out it just seems like the front end wont flex! especially not up. like ill park one tire on say a 2 foot tall rock and the amount of space from the tire top to the fender is almost the same as when its on flat ground. :dunno:

Wheres the pics.

My 97 i have lincoln locked front /rear on 38.5s i can usually keep it together but i have grenaded the front axle 2 out of my last 3 trips. Then again i also just have it planted at all times lol time for new axles.

As for the flex your gonna need a lower ppi spring rangers are like 480 pounds to compress one inch if you drop to a 200lb spring from an early bronco or xj but in a much longer length you will get your travel. But you may wanna run a sway bar again with disconnects

yeah i thought about like 6.5 xj coils... how much would they sag though? like how do you calculate height vs. spring rate?

and pics are on the way!! haha gotta have a friend send um to me

Not sure.. i think theres a calculator on here though. I know disciplerocks on here has 6.5 xj coils on his b2

the one with my truck on the rock was after the huge 1 day sell at 4 wheel parts, they left the boulders out so i had too haha and thats with my sway bar on too. my damn parking brake isnt strong enough to hold the truck when it was all the way on the rock haha

and alright ill check around in the tech library and check out his build... are thcoil diameters the same size or do you gotta change buckets? ill juts go to a soft bronco coil if you have to change buckets for xj's too

EDIT: i found the spring rate calculator and will have to get some measurements to use it. im looking into the whole f250 shock buckets now too (along with softer springs) i dont want to get over the 5" lift mark in fear of serious camber/ balljoint issues with only having 4" drop brackets... then ill cut fenders to accommodate the extra up travel. my rear sock/suspension setup if pretty flexy already so i dont think ill need shocks or anything back there... id like to loos the blocks and do the 63" and belltech 6400's but this is a budget build and i already have block which are doing fine soo there staying haha

I think you should do a D44 high pinion swap. Yes you are changing bolt patterns, but a set of 5-5.5 adapters for the rear is 50 bucks. The D44 is just better in literally every way.

yeah i want to!! but im broke now and school starts tomorrow!! :annoyed: so from here on out everything on my truck id gunna be on a serious dudget haha

well things have been going good trucks still running alright, hoping to go wheeling sometime soon again. works been picking up a bit. now i have a little $$ to throw around. which is making me want to kill myself for selling those 4d55 diesels!!!! cause now i feel i could financially do it... if anyone heres about one being forsale please pm me! been tossing around buying a lockrite for the rear, but cant bring myself to do it...

noooooo haha im welding up the front for sure... but the rear?? i like my tires and leaf mounts a bit too much for that sorta thing haha

Truck has come along way. One thing I would change though is that front bumper, that thing is hideous lol. But ya gotta start somewhere. Nice work bud
