The "Goldwing" Build Thread

i dont think itll be as bulky as that one... the vertical front piece is only 6" wide and that angled piece on the bottom thats kinda a "slide plate" (not quite a full skid plate) is gunna be about 10" at a 45 degree angle off the main pice going back into the truck.

over all itll probably weigh about 200 to 250 pounds so ill probably have to go up to 6" coils in front to keep it level and ill trim a bit most likely.

and yeah!! hahahahaha i got a great idea on mounting it ill post more pics when i get around to making my mounts but steel is expensive and i dont have a job right now so it may be a while hahaha

and im just not a huge fan of gas engines in general hahahaha ive been raised on diesel fumes soooo hahaha and id wayyyyy rather have a powerstoke than a cummins but good luck stuffing a V8 diesel into a Ranger!!!! hahahahahahaha so i gotta go with the 4cyl cummins, its as big as you can really fit in there without a lot of frame and fitting work. but if i had to say, 302's and 350's were the best gas engines. so chevy did something right :P

Good luck with the Diesel conversion, anyways. A truck is a truck- no matter what you do, it does the same thing at the end.

The rear rack would be pretty cool, too

Update! 12-30-2012

for Christmas i got 2 10" subs and an 800W amp so i threw those in and finally got around to putting in my power inverter:

the only pic of the iverter i have is when it was mounted under my seat but i moved it to be about a foot up off the floor on the drivers side cab wall by the seat belt so that if i go swimming again itll be alright:

Then i decided i was gunna do a home depot snorkel... you will need a roof vent/ rain cap, square to 3" adapter, two 45* 3" ABC plastic elbos, about 2 feet of 3" ABS plastic tube, about 6 feet of 3"flex pipe (plastic flex works much better than aluminum) , 6" of 3" rubber hose, and some spray on rubber dip it! oh and caulking or something like that to seal everything

Parts/how it fits together:

First you wanna coat the flex pipe in rubber to keep it from tearing or getting holes in it. (i found this out the hard way and did it on my 2nd peice of pipe thats why it isnt pictured. also only needed if you bought aluminum pipe) take the square to 3" pipe adapter and put it in the existing air box square cut out thing then attach the flex pipe to the adapter :

then cut a hole in your inner finder according to where you want it to be, and a U shaped hole on the cab end of your fender. split a hose and "line" your cuts so the sharp edges dont cut the flex pipe (and your cuts wont have to look good it you line them):

IMG_20121229_141714.jpg

then after a few trials and errors on positioning piece it all together and seal it with caulking:

IMG_20121230_112239.jpg

for a mount i just used some self tappers into my roof with a strip of aluminum:

sweet! Nav system?

no nav systems are pointless with the cell phones these day and its a huge waste of money anyways... just something an arrogant rich ass needs. if you dont know where your going get a map or ask someone hahaha

Update: 2/11/2013

So I finally got around to tearing out my D35 and fixing that leak and the shaft seals. wish i woulda had the cash to drop a spool or shafts or something in it but i barely had enough to get the paint and oil hahaha

axle out:

IMG_20130112_083959_zpsffe973e8.jpg

I took off the cover and found the last thing anyone would have wanted to find:

IMG_20130112_115035_zpsaf4ef12e.jpg

Now i figured since all the oil leaked out the water would have too on the trip home but i guess not! So at that point i was praying that the cover wasnt warped. but atleast all the gears and bearings still looked great so i kinda ignored the ice:

IMG_20130112_122640_zps7850cecb.jpg

I redid the seal and painted the housing and knuckles black and the springs and rad arms what i thought was gunna be red but turned out to be a chevy orange. I was looking at it all together and decided i wanted something on the diffy cover so i got creative with the orange haha:

IMG_20130115_171602_zpsc1af9e00.jpg

Then like a bumbass i put the axle back in the truck before i checked if it leaked or not and of course it still did meaning the ice inside warped the cover soooo now it really is dana 44 time hahaha heres it all hooked up:

IMG_20130211_172158_zps66bb308e.jpg

excuse the shitty cell phone pics haha but heres some flex shots, got more than i thought i would have. again this is with the front sway bars still connected. just found this ledge on the way to work at like 530 in the mornig so its dark too. i easily could have gone much higher especially if i disconnected the front sway bars but there was a hand rail in the way:

when i find a steal on a 44 ill go ahead and do the rear 64" leaf swap and do 64" leafs up front with some deep shackles. i wanna be up to about 8" lift all around with little to no blocks and hopefully be geared to about a 4:56 or so running on 36's idk yet though haha hopes and dreams :D

Oh yeah another spark of good news! in august i will be starting college through out my senior year in high school to get a welding degree while still earning high school credits on top of the weld credits! so a lot of fab work will be sparking up on here if i dont trade her for a powerstroke by then :thefinger: :icon_thumby: :icon_welder: :D

Lincoln locker for the win. And pics no worky

Edit: never mind they do.. and it may be easier and cheaper to get another dana 35 beam and weld it. While saving for a sas

thats a good idea... i never thought of that because as of now it still holds fluid but at about the 3/4 full mark and when you run the truck in 4x4 for a while the fluid bubbles up and leaks even more so i have 4x4 but only for short periods of time to get unstuck with so i havent be able too offroad at all since this. i may do that thanks for the thought... how exactly would you go about doing it?

I meant get a new beam so it doesnt leak. While its out weld the diff. Should be easy now assuming u did the c clip eliminator you only need to pull one side off.

ohhh hahaha i missed the good ole lincoln locker part you wrote some how haha but i didnt actually do the clip eliminator. i know i know i should have while it was out but i never thought about it. i was in a serious hurry to get my axle back in as this is my daily driver so i was pretty rushed haha but i dont think finding a FW 44 is gunna be too hard... theyre all over CL out here in colorado for about 100-200 stock or with slight mods. i just dont know if i wanna dive into a FW because then id either need to narrow it or find a 9" to match in the rear. i might fix my 35 and run it for a bit but i hate putting more money into one of those sad excuses for an axle hahaha at this point id rather have a dana 30 hahahahaha :D

Well i think i finally decided on whats next. i figure i havent been able to find anything too terrible about the dana 35 setup i havent broken anything too major on it so ill keep it for a while... anyone got a few ideas for cheap upgrades?? i dont wanna do big money parts like locker and gears in a 35 so save those ideas for my 44 sas.

Heres what im thinking on doing for the time being while finding/buying/building a fw hp 44:

-Get more work done on the bumper :icon_welder: (its been VERY slow going)
-Make some extended rad arms and possibly a tranny x member :dunno: (please post pics to this thread of yours!! i need ideas and i want to make ones at an angle so i can turn my tires to full lock again with out rubbing!!)
-Get a new drivers side beam for my 35 to fix the leak
-C clip eliminator (shoulda done it the damn first time!) :annoyed:
-While its out im thinking lincoln locker??? :dunno: (not positive though... any ideas???)
-Start looking for/ getting everything for a 64" leaf swap so i can be blockless.

some pretty high hopes for a teen with little to no reliable income hahaha i waiting on my tax return from summer jobs and im trying to find a job but is basically impossible!! :annoyed:

Id take page outta nathans book with rangbee v 2.0 (wait i am lol) tac the u joint caps 760 u joints lincoln lock it claranc the inner shaft so it doesnt bind and flog the hell outta it. Keep in mind a dana 35 uses the same u joints as a 44. So theyre near the same strength
