The F In FX4 Stands For

Ford so is it ford x 4 or what is the factual meaning of fx4 and how did ford come up with fx4 i know the first year for the fx4 off road package was in 2002.

I have on my 2002 Ranger FX4 Off Road

stainless steel tow hooks.
31 inch tires
3 skid plates.

Is the stainless steel tow hooks bigger than the 4x4 off road tow hooks and are the fx4 off road tow hooks stronger too. I would think yes to bigger and stronger

Toyota has their TRD in red letters on the quarter. Chevy has their "Z71" package in red letters on the quarter. Ford has to have something back there to compete.
