The effects of hurricane Ike in NE Ohio

Power back on about an hour ago. Fridge is toast. Always a *&#$#@ problem. :mad:shady

No generator? Hell, my little Yamaha is burbling happily at the first brown flicker of the lights. A power outage for us comes standard with a new thunderstorm and for an inch of rain extra, they throw in a washed out culvert that takes the puny 3" plastic water main with it.

I made a cable with a 220v male connector to the generator on one end and a 220v male connector to match the clothes dryer outlet. I just flip the main breaker on the house, unplug the dryer and plug in the generator. Not as nice as a transfer switch, but much cheaper.

I would, but those double-male cords are illegal. If I were away and my brother came over to help my wife during a power outage and accidentally killed a lineman I wouldn't be able to live with myself. I'll just keep doing what I'm doing until I decide to get a transfer box and move a few vital circuits over to it. I'd rather do it the right way and not have to keep that extra bit of worry in my head.
